Calorie confusion

Just starting week 1, have tried classes before but not counted calories and a bit confused. Recommended 280 calls for breakfast but 2 x weetabix 342 plus a banana and 150 ml SS milk takes me way over that for what I considered to be a good breakfast?

Hi I have just looked on the Weetabix site and it says there is 136 calories in a 2 biscuit serving that is 37.5g, on the calorie checker 342 calories is per 100g Weetabix. Banana is approx 95 calories so with milk added you should be ok with that but don't forget to count sugar if you put that on. Sometimes it is worth weighing what you've got to check aside the calorie checker.

I am on my last day of week 3 and it takes a little time to get your head around calorie counting but when you have looked something up keep a note book and write it in so next time you have the calorie value at hand we all tend to stick to certain foods we like so it is like having your own reference book just keep adding new foods as you have them.

Good luck keep us posted. Bev

Hi Notaclass 😀 I average 350 calories for my breakfasts every morning to ensure its healthy and filling. I never have to snack mid morning so save calories there. There is no rule book as everyone's different if you enjoy a larger breakfast and lunch, mid afternoon snack and a smaller dinner for example go for it ... as long as it's not over your calorie allowance. Good Luck. Clairex

40 g of wholemeal cereal + 200 mL skimmed milk is 226kcal, + 10g of peanut = 60kcal so 280 in total

Hi Notaclass,

Maybe have a look at our Recipe collation post, and the sections re: breakfasts, for some ideas. Although there are calorie recommendations for breakfasts, I would say have as many as you would like to ensure you have a breakfast that can sustain you - and provide you with good nutrients. My breakfasts average 450 calories, or thereabouts, and I don't need to snack at all in the mornings as a result of that.

Another vote for a big (300-400kcal) breakfast... I would add I try to have some protein in it (eggs, mushrooms) to help delay the munchies.

I only have about 150 calories for breakfast, porridge with water. Its personal choice, I like to have most my calories for dinner :)

How many cals are you allowing per day? I'm on 1380 to lose 1.5lbs a week. I usually eat around 1750 though once I've exercised. My breakfast is roughly 400-500 cals. Lunch is around 400, dinner is 500-600 cals and the rest are snacks.

Are you using any apps to count cals at all? Remember if you are hungry, you have to eat. You can always do some extra exercise to burn any extras off.
