Decided to start the day with some HIIT never having tried it before and I'm floored! Couldn't even do all the exercises ... But somehow I feel ok. I attempted everything, my heart rate was up for 20mins and I'm very sweaty. So that has to be good, right?
Anyone out there do HIIT at home? Any good go to workouts?
Thank you

Yes that is good.as Marmite said...sweat is your fat crying!!
Well done on getting it done first thing too!
When I am well and exercising I love HIIT. I have a few but would need to look up.
Sometimes I keep it super simple. For example I have a exercise 'ladder'. It lies flat on the floor and you can do all sorts of steps in and out, up and down at speed. Keep going for 30 seconds. Rest for 30 and go again. This time trying to do more than last. Keep repeating for 20mins.
Or simpler 30 seconds running / cycling / swimming as fast as you possibly can...maximum effort. 30 seconds rest and go again etc.
Well done for getting through your planned exercise and glad you feel ok afterwards!
I do the equivalent of HIIT when I use the gym equipment, as I just alter between speeding up for a few seconds (maybe 30 seconds to a minute duration) and then go slower, and then speed up etc - I tend to do that on the bike machine, and the hill climber. Regarding the running on the treadmill, I used to try running consistently for 4 to 5kms, but now I tend to run as quickly as I can for just 1km, and then do something else in the gym, and then return to the treadmill and do another 1km, again as quickly as I can. I find this gets me sweating quite a bit, and also I enjoy it more as I try to beat my personal bests for each 1 km.
So I guess I'm doing HIIT now by myself in the gym - not an organised class. I have tried 'spinning classes' before - which I think use HIIT quite a bit, but I find them too challenging for me, as I prefer to go at my own pace than be in an organised class - but that's just me, you might enjoy them, and I think it would definitely be worth trying them out to see if you like them.
I realise your question was about doing HIIT at home - I haven't specifically done that. But when I've been out walking, I sometimes use HIIT in my walking routine, and that involves walking faster for a minute, then slower pace, and then sometimes 'jogging' for a minute and then fast walking - etc. It all depends on how energetic I'm feeling and whether I'm walking alone or with someone else. I don't like to inflict HIIT on others if they're coming out with me for a gentle walk.
I think it's really good though, and hope you keep it up, as long as you're enjoying it. You'll get fitter and cope with it better as you continue.
I will stick with home as I have a limited budget and no time. I work 3 days a week and have a 5 and a 2 year old so even at home it's tricky to carve the time to fit it in. My 2 year thinks crunches are his opportunity to sit on my head
Until I developed a bit of a back problem I did HIIT 4 times a week. 15 work session of 30 secs a time and 15 rests of 30 secs. Very good workout done in 20 mins.including warm up. Do it all at home first thing in the morning before eating. All I did was run on the spot as fast I can. Hopefully the back will get better soon so I can start again. Did wonders for my fitness and burns fat.
I saw a programme on TV that said men benefit from fasting before excercise but it was the opposite for women. They should excercise after eating. Whatever you do I am sure you will still burn fat and will definitely get fitter. You should have the rest days though. 4 days a week should be about right.
