Hello everyone,

So it all started 5 years ago, aged 20 and completely in denial about how overweight I was. I am pretty short (5ft 2) and weighing over 15 stone, I didn't particularly look healthy! One day I woke up and realised something needed to change. Not a faddy diet that only means short-term weight-loss then piling it back on plus more. Life changes, so that the weight stayed off. I managed to lose 4 stone in 7 months simply by cutting ALL chocolate, biscuits, crisps (ie bad food) and exercising (running and swimming). I never intended to lose this weight so fast and I always slow and steady is the best.

So 5 years on I'm 25 and weigh 12 stone. I am pleased I've kept the weight down (especially whilst at uni!), however I am still over weight for my height. Therefore I am to lose around 2 stone. I have ran 10 half marathons and 3 marathons since the weight loss and try and stay pretty active. I have a very sweet tooth which can be my downfall.

Hopefully we can motivate each other and all reach our goals. The first couple of weeks are always the hardest. I've decided to start early and am on day 2 of the healthy living kick.

Good luck everyone, make yourself proud.

Steph

Welcome Steph

Well done on making the right changes and losing so much weight already 😊

You have come to the right place for motivation and support, and I am sure within no time one of the others will give you some links for the 12 week plan, the Monday weigh in and our around the world in 80 days challenge - all 3 a great way to keep going !!!

Sorry that I can't give you the links, not worked out how to on a phone yet 😩

Thanks. I've got the NHS 12 week plan but the other 2 sound really handy. Have a great New Year.

Look for 'update around the world in 80 days'. I think it was posted this morning as Lizzy is still recruiting. There are already over 50 of us trying to walk, jog, swim, dance, cycle,...around the world, so we will be adding our kms to see if we can do it. Just add your name to the post.

Monday morning look out for a post for the weekly weigh in 😊

Have a happy new year 🎇

Hi Steph,

Your post is inspiring, and really well done on your weight loss success over the past few years.

If you fancy joining us for a Monday group weigh-in, then as Elissy says, please look out for the Monday morning post - I post it just before 7am or thereabouts. It's a large group but we ensure we reply to everyone, and it's a truely great group - lots of enthusiastic and like-minded lovely people.

If it's something you'd like to be part of, then you'd be very welcome, but I do acknowledge that weigh-in groups aren't everyone's cup of tea.

Happy New Year, and the best of success with your current goals.

Lowcal :-)

Good luck Stephb, sounds to me like you're ready for a change👍 I'm short myself, 5 foot, and still need to lose about 2 stone to get to a healthy range. You sound super fit though, and you've tackled uni with all the temptations that go with it, well done you! I'm sure this year will be the one you change your life, and remember for years to come😀

I used to have a sweet tooth and consequently I always struggled with my weight which Yoyo ed. In August I decided to give up refined sugar totally. I went cold turkey and the first 3 days were horrible. But since then I have had no cravings. I realised sugar was an addiction. I feel better. My digestion has improved with no bloating. My skin has improved with no breakouts and my energy levels remain constant without highs and slumps.

I know nothing is banned on the 12 week plan but I banned sugar until I reached my goal weight which took about 2 months. I always allowed natural fruit for something sweet.

Once I got to my goal I allowed refined sugar only on celebration days (birthdays, weddings,Christmas etc)

I have found that if I eat some I want more so I have had to really decide if I want to go through the craving stage again. Many times I decide I would rather just say no and enjoy a pice of fruit instead. Alcohol contains refined sugar and a real treat on celebration days is s glass or two of Prosecco. This doesn't seem to set the cravings going.

Maybe you could think of doing a month refined sugar free and see how you feel at the end of the month. You may be addicted as I was. I wouldn't go back to sugar now.

Maybe it's not for you but your comment about a sweet tooth so reminded me of whee I was before I thought I 'd share my experience.

Well done on how far you'v already come and all the best for the rest of your journey.

Such a great post. I completely agree. Definitely no sugar for me for a little while. Thank you! Sounds like you've done amazingly!

Waw that's a bit impressive. I on the other hand started the plan in November and lost 6lbs up to Xmas then put 3 back so I'm 3 ahead and ready for 2016. I walk miles but no marathons for me. I'm impressed!

You're still in the minus, and if you can't eat at Christmas when can you! Thanks, anything is achievable if you put your mind to it! Keep up the good work!

Well done! I too am 5ft 2in and 12 stone. Since last Easter I have lost over one stone, mostly using the 5.2 diet. After the Christmas excesses have finished I intend to resume dieting and lose another stone.like one of the other bloggers I think that the cravings for sugar and also carbs hinder weight loss. Good luck you are doing the right thing.
