Step 1: I've signed up and I will start this journey by reading and planning my first week on this weight loss journey. I'm feeling nervous because I've been here before. My BMI is 38 and I need to get it down into the 20s. If anyone is a newbie as well lets link up and support each other.

Hi I've just this minute signed up. My bmi is 35. Been trying for years...it's my 60th next year so feel it's my last go at it. Hope it goes well for you. Keep in touch xx

I'm an old newbie starting for the umpteenth time but this is it! Good luck to us all.

Welcome. If like me, you are aiming for a happier and healthy future, then you couldn't be on a better site. I've not been here long, but I've made steady progress and have lost over 2 st so far. I still have a way to go, but I've found this group to be very positive and supportive.

Look after yourself because you are worth it :)

Hiya I started last week. Both my children began ill. I have been stick in the house all week,it has been awful. No exercise much. Honestly haven't done much. Small ones and i tried and stay away for my children goodies.

I have been trying new fruits. Youtube has been alot of help. I have no idea how to eat kiwi and many other fruits.

Hiya. I am a newbie too and I really want to shed some pounds (3 stones to be precise ;))to look and feel better. I have reduced my food portions and finding that ok so far. The biggest struggle is the snacks. And exercise - frankly I struggle to find time to exercise. How did you all approach the whole thing?

Hi Maria!

I have just seen your post and it sounded just like me!

I have a 3 stone weightloss goal and my biggest downfall is snacking. I have been on this journey a little while and finally starting to make some progress... I've lost 13lbs!!! Here are things that worked for me...

- Smaller portions... like you've said you are finding these ok so far, but still snacking! Extra veg helps fill me up so I am not reaching for the snacks (or filling up on naughty foods)

- Water!!! Drink lots of water! Aim to drink 2l a day. I try to keep a bottle on me, especially at work so I'm not reaching for other things when really I'm just thirsty. Make sure you have a glass when you are eating too. If the flavour bores you, try water with a slice of lemon or orange.

- Excercise! I found this really daunting too and make excuses all the time. But just moving is a good start! Do you go places in the car/bus you could walk to? Or even a quick walk around the block helps! Start small and don't stress over it. I have finally started the couch 2 5k program - I felt like I wasnt going to make it on my first run but here I am now in week 3 and still going! The sessions are only half an hour long so they don't take much time out of your day (and you'll feel better for it!)

- Don't stress yourself out if you fall off the bandwagon. Had a naughty meal or chocolate snack? Don't get hung up about it, it's ok! Just don't make it an excuse to give up completely! Treats are ok so long as they are just treats. Remember this is a lifestyle change and not a a quick fix and you need to enjoy it :-) which brings me to my last point...

- Have smaller goals. Our end goal is to lose 3 stone and look fabulous right? I often find this really overwhelming, think I can't do it and end up giving up and having a binge! What I feel has helped me recently shed the weight is making smaller goals, such as:

I just want to lose 1lb.

I will go on one run/walk this week.

You get the satisfaction when you achieve these and want to do them more! I know am finally losing weight steadily and enjoying the running plan. My meals are healthy for the most part, but I don't get upset if I have a treat once in a while - I just make sure that's it and run extra hard!

Sorry for the long post but I was so happy when I stepped on the scales this morning to see that all the little pounds I've been losing have now added up to nearly a stone! I hope you find something useful in my tips and any others found on this site... everyone is really lovely and it really helps when you are feeling down or overwhelmed by it all that there are others on the same journey spurring each other on!

Thank you for your message it was very encouraging. And mainly well done!!! It is amazing when the hard work pays off. It takes a lot of self control to do that.

I will definetely go with your suggestions. The exercise is a bit more tricky for me as my hubby works nights and we have 22 months old toddler so I am struggling to find any time to be able to go out on my own except the work where I go by car. I need to try and incorporate the exercise in with the morning routine I could do at home whilst looking after my son. He is another reason why I want to get fit and healthy.

Thank you :-) It took a long time to get in the swing of things but it's starting to feel good! Positive motivation is key (not putting yourself down) and it sounds like you have a great little bundle of motivation who will be very proud of you :-)

I don't have kids myself but from sister-in-laws experience a DVD workout might be a good idea for you, whilst your little one is playing! And as he gets older getting out and about, whether it's swimming or just the play park, will help you move about more.

I'm sure there are plenty of yummy mummies on here that will have some good ideas too!
