Started to eat for the sake of eating

I better stop because it is a big shame. I have been so good for the past 2 weeks and doing tons of walking now I don't want to get back into my old habits and eat all day. I don't want to put on all my weight that I lost. Well with the support of all of you I will not go back to my old ways. Please help?

Try anything at all which is not in the kitchen and occupies your hands for example cleaning, five minute stretching, phone someone, read a story to a child, do someones homework..you get the idea. These mini reverses are normal the crucial thing is to realise that you are not going back just stumbling going forward. Hope rest of your evening goes well

Hi Bakersdozen,

Gonti has given you some great suggestions there - maybe write a list of things that you think will help - list the ones Gonti has put, and also some that you can think of yourself - then you can always try them out, and see which ones are helpful for you - we all have different ones that we turn to - but they don't always work, so it's good to be armed with several alternatives to try. Also, what works on one day, might not work the next, but may do on another occasion - it often depends on how we're feeling at any one time. You can hopefully find the key things that work for 'you' personally, and maybe have that as a personalised list, adapted for your own needs.

I sometimes turn to doing a few 'strength exercises' when I feel like eating something - which makes me feel good when I've done them. Sit-ups, press-ups, squats - that kind of thing. You only need to do a few repetitions and it can feel like a good 'circuit' and the endorphins start racing, and you feel good.

Having said that, I've not done any strength exercises since before the weekend, so I am not being a good example this past few days - I've got my TOM (time of the month) - so feeling a bit lethargic.

Too much information, I know - but I really hope you cope with this evening, and try to put those foods away out of sight - as you said you're only 'eating for the sake of eating' and therefore you're better off diverting your attention in some way.

Good luck!

Lowcal :-)

Thanks Gonti and Lowcal for replying! Yes like that I am only stumbling and not going back. When I know that I am only stumbling than I will move forward and just keep myself busy sorting out clothes or doing activities with my son. Like you say stay out of the kitchen or if I am than i am usually on my pc.

You are very welcome! I think they are so good for the core - and I started doing them as a result of Ruth_Canal_Runner's September Strength Challenge - so it's thanks to her really - knock-on effect!

Your core will be getting stronger!

I definitely agree!

Hi bakersdozen, sometimes I just pick up my keys and go out for a long walk without my wallet. Also really recommend having things in reserve to eat instead. Lots of fruit and veg, herbal teas, options hot chocolate, etc. Good luck. Stay in touch with us on here, we'll def support you and get you back on track :)

Try something that occupies your mind. Take up a new hobby which will stretch your brain power and make the hours fly by. Or how about a pamper evening? You can't overeat if you're wearing a face mask, or your nails are wet!

I am much better now. Eating sensibly and doing my walking. I will keep telling myself to stop eating for the sake of eating. I have to be more careful in future as I end up eating my son's left overs which I should not as I am full. In future I will make sure that when he comes home from school I will be hungry and eat after him so if their is any left over I will be o.k. to eat it and not eat before he comes home as used to do.
