I've been reading a bit about coconut oil, how good it is for you, your metabolism etc Just wondering if anyone uses it, has tried it? Is it as good as they say or is it all hype? X

Coconut oil is probably the best choice to cook with because it maintains its structure at high heat.

Olive oil is also a good choice.

Most other oils oxidise and produce free radicals when being used at high heat.

Thanks guys, I did wonder. And it is quite expensive. Might be better using it on your skin, hair etc lol x

I cook egg whites in it practically every morning, gives it a great flavor as well as use it in daily in all my smoothies for energy! I love this link for coconut oil, so many great ways to use it")

down to personal choice, I use it regularly but in coffee I find it leaves an oil slick on top which I find unpleasant

I've been cooking everything in coconut oil now for about 4 months and I fry virtually everything Not too expensive if you have or know someone who has a Costco card and it does last for ages. I will have only spent about £15.00 on coconut oil in 4 months so not too bad.

You do have to get used to some foods retaining the slight cocunut taste. I won't cook mushrooms with it as they really taste of coconut so I fry them in butter.

I don't worry about fat in moderation as plenty of research at the moment saying it it's not the major factor in weight gain and I'm still loosing weight steadily.

I can't say how good it is or not. I've read that it is good for you and actually helps weight loss but have stopped trusting a lot of these studies as for every study there seems to be another study giving the opposite view.

You might find this interesting even though it's a few years old now.

We use it and have for a couple of years now. I like it to be honest because simply it has a very high smoke value meaning you can get really hot before it breaks down and smokes, great for roasting veg!

Price wise, I buy it either off Amazon (have it on my CamelCamelCamel Watch list as it often drops in price) or Groupon who often have offers on it every few months.

I love it but it is full of calories so not ideal for weight loss.

I fry my chicken in coconut oil because I like the taste it gives and I don't need any dressings for my salad then!

I get my coconut oil from Holland and Barrett when the penny sale is one. The one I buy is £15.99 so I get two for £16. It usually isn't in the penny sale at the beginning but gets added later!

I use one for cooking and then the other for pretty much everything beauty-wise! I rub a small amount in my hair as conditioner, I use it as a cleanser and make up remover, have mixed it with sweet almond oil as a moisturiser, use it as a hand and foot moisturiser, when my body moisturiser runs out it will become that too! I got loads of ideas from Pinterest but you can google it too!

I love the stuff!

Hi, yes I use it to fry in and mix into baking and smoothies and consume a teaspoon a day - It is a super healthy medium chain fat, just make sure you buy organic extra virgin - I buy Lucy Bee off amazon - its a high quality product

love Michael Mosley - always use butter, lard and olive oil to fry in
