Hi Judith. You've got so much on your plate, but hopefully defeating cancer is giving you a really positive sense of purpose now? Can you ask your doc to refer you to a dietician/nutritionist, to support your weight loss? Six stone is a lot to think about in one go. A lot of people on here set mini goals along the way. Im currently following the nhs 12 week weightloss plan and before that did the couch to 5k plan to get myself running. Let us know what path you decide to follow and hopefully we can support you on your way. Ruth :)

As canal runner suggests have a look at the NHS 12 week plan. I have found it really helpful. It is easy to follow and works by encouraging you to adopt healthier eating patterns. You have to count calories but that is easy with the help of the internet or the myfitnesspal app. Do set yourself mini targets, my first target was to lose 10kg that would make me eligible for a kidney transplan when one becomes available. And I can happily say that at my last weeks weigh in (week9) I achieved that goal my next target is to get down to 90kg.

Good luck with your weight loss and continuing good health.

LingGirl and Canal Runner are so right - don't think of the large 6stone number, just focus on little steps. From previous experience I know that I work well with a 4 day plan- plan all your meals and as much preparation in advance, write in down in the form of a food journal and I weigh every 5th day to inspire me to keep going.

Good luck to you - this could be the beginning of a much healthier life style for you - and beating cancer will inspire you to go further.

We can't replace doctors dieticians and nurses but we are another level of support, mini goals is a great idea, the idea is it needs to be a new sustainable eating plan and not a temporary fix

Hi Judith, I am currently losing weight with the 5:2 diet. This diet if followed correctly gives great results. Take a look at this documentary by Dr. Michael Mosley who invented this way of dieting. bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01lxyzc
