Welcome and good luck on your weight loss journey 😀 the 12wk plan has difference results for everyone from what I've seen. Just remember every 1ib loss is a a step forward and we all sometimes have our steps back. Good luck mark x
Hi Mark. Welcome So far, so good on the 12 week plan. Am not doing anything drastic, just cutting out junk and snacking, eating lots more no/low cal veg and moving about a bit more than before. Have lost about 12 lbs in 3 weeks but still have a long way to go so will be stepping up the exercise a bit over the next few weeks. Good luck with your journey
Welcome, I hope you find what you need in this community. You'll find many motivational posts here! Start by dowloading an app on your phone to keep track of calories (Fat Secret, My Fitness Pal...), it's a great aid! Good luck!
Now then Mark, I got weighed 7 weeks ago and was 14 and a half stone and I also stand a mighty 5' 9" tall.
'The scales must be wrong?' They sadly weren't a couple of years of complacency had seen me balloon to an unhealthy size. I don't have the biggest frame to carry extra weight.
You have 12 years on me which is great news...which gives you plenty of time to get your a*** in to gear and shift that weight!
Now my approach has been 'if you are going to do something you might as well do it right.' I would recommend this approach take no prisoners, get results quickly and make no excuses! Set yourself small challenges along the way and heaven forbid you might even enjoy the journey
I have set myself a target of getting down to 12 stone in 16 weeks and so far so good, I have managed to lose 16lbs in 7 weeks which I hope is a sustainable rate. I would recommend setting yourself a final goal or target maybe stick a post it to the fridge door or the mirror in your bathroom somewhere where you can get motivation as a reminder.
The first thing I did was stop drinking alcohol, it pained me to do it but I had to, I was down the pub a lot and this was contributing to a calorie surplus and this in turn was causing me to pile on the pounds. I went cold turkey and at first it was difficult but after a few weeks I got used to drinking a lime and soda water whilst watching the football instead of lager.
The second thing I did was overhaul my diet, replacing refined sugar with vegetables and fruit, eating balanced meals, low GI carbs, lean protein, more fish and substituting most drinks (high sugar and caffeine) for sparkling water. Hydration is key.
My third and final change was exercise. I am in the gym 6 out of 7 days doing a combination of weight training and cardio sessions. I must admit I find this aspect of my new lifestyle the most enjoyable. I used to train a lot in the gym before I fell off the wagon and I have nearly got my strength back for a range of exercises which is a great feeling. There's nothing more satisfying than that walk home from the gym when you have just achieved a PB, you get addicted to the endorphins!
I would recommend the NHS diet plan it is simple and effective, there are also lots of people on here who are willing to share their experiences.
Let us all know how you are getting on and if you have any questions on diet and exercise feel free to get in touch.
Good luck
