Question re calorie balance

Ho starting today! ! I use my fitness pal and do running which it balances with my calorie intake. So my question is do I eat 1400 calories and my exercise is on top of that or do I reach 1400 total. Does that make sense??!!

I just use my calorie allowance (1400) - any exercise on top is a bonus!

I stick to 1400cals per day, eating exercise calories is more about maintaining really

I used my exercise calories for treats. Little chocolate rewards for the sweat in the gym :)
