This is the first day of my diet and I even managed to go to the aqua class. I felt wobbly but great after. I am very worried about keeping to the diet but I am writing down everything I eat and trying to work out the calories. Are there any more out there who have just started? Do any older members have any tips they could give me?

First Day
Hi! Most of the people here use an app on their mobile phones to keep account of the daily calories. They use "MyFitnessPal". I use "FatSecret". Any of them will help you not to lose track. This is my 12th week. The best advice I can give you is to make healthy choices and to not overdo anything, do what you think you will be able to do for the rest of your life, changing some things for good. Good luck!
Hey welcome to the group. Sounds like a great start to your new lifestyle. What are you using to work out your calories? I have an app called my fitnesspal and it is a godsend it really is, i can scan items and it works it all out for me as well as having a huge database. They also have a website if you dont have a smart phone. Best advice is to take it one day at a time, and set smaller goals of weight loss to aim for. This site is great for motivation and support. im on week 22 Have you looked into the nhs 12 week plan? Its a great place to start. Good luck
I have used foodfocus, similar to myfitnesspal. Well done on the aqua, when I've lost weight in the past I found regular exercise really helped
Hi, welcome! I started my diet on Monday so still learning the ropes too but it has been pretty easy to stick to so far, not been hungry at all as filling up on veg and fibre. Also the support on here is great! I've been snacking on carrot or fruit when I get peckish. Others have already mentioned the apps, I use myfitnesspal to track my calories, so much quicker than writing it all down and it also tracks nutrients to warns you when your close to your daily recommendation for sugar, fat etc! Good luck and let us know how you are doing!🌺
Thanks for all the support, I have been using the calorie counter that is on the nhs site and writing down what I eat, not hungry so far and feeling quite upbeat about it all.
I am 68 but see myself around 30/40 at the most. I have taken up jogging "c25k" and guess what: I can do it. I have also started dancing classes. if you are around my age, you are not old. Just a touch more experienced and have the excuse to do stupid things and get away with it. I use the weekly NHS chart but also write everything down at the back of the page. I divide it in seven days, with breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. I add up as I go along. Now this system is a bit old fashioned because my phone is a dinausaur and I can't download and would not know how to do it anyway. Most people seem to use myfitesspal and are happy with it. it sounds like a best friend.
Hi there, well done for getting focussed and getting support. Cook&Count app is the one to use for home cooking. It does all the calculations for you and is really lovely to use - you can do any recipe and make your own digital recipe book. Cooking from scratch is the way to go - you have so much more control over what you're eating. There are 2 good tv progs at the mo - the truth about sugar and The Truth about Calories.
And even if you can't do any other exercise make sure u get out for a walk everyday - is great for the mood too. Good luck with IT all
