BMI is proportional to mass and inversely proportional to the square of the height. A BMI from 18.5 up to 25 may indicate optimal weight, a BMI lower than 18.5 suggests the person is underweight, a number from 25 up to 30 may indicate the person is overweight, and a number from 30 upwards suggests the person is obese. You can check your BMI here: bmicalculator.org/#tabs-2
Yes you are correct - anything between 18.5 and 25 BMI is regarded as a healthy weight! 25.3 is brilliant and getting closer to 'healthy weight' - 25.3 is classed as overweight - but obviously not by much! Continue what you are doing and you'll be under 25 in no time! BMI doesn't cover all people - youngsters, athletes, rugby players, pregnant ladies, etc. But for many ordinary folks it gives a target of sorts. Don't go anywhere near BMI 18 - or I'll start worrying about you!
BMI should be used as a rough guide only, especially the closer you are to the "Normal Range" as it is uses what is considered by lots as an outdated formula (from Victorian times I think but don't quote me!) that does not take into account the fact that a taller persons will have proportionally larger arms, legs and torso in comparison to a shorter ones. There are online calculators that use an updated formula but once again you really should not be too concerned when you are close to the "Normal Range". BMI is great quick tool/calculation for Healthcare Professionals to quickly identify and classify patience that are very overweight/obese or underweight.
Kerry BMI is total rubbish I used to have a boss we called lofty (he was very short) who was 9 stone. He could reach level 16 on the shuttle run beep test yet his BMI said he was obese. We all laughed as he was the fittest bloke we new. If I was my ideal BMI I would be 12 stone. Can u imagine a 6'4" bloke at 12 stone is look like a rake. Lol. So don't worry to much unless your pushing 30 plus I my eyes regards J
Yes, that's good, it's going down. It will go down gradually as you lose weight, because BMI is the ratio of fat to height (a rough estimate unless you have scales that measure it. There is an expected weight for your height and the ratio between them is said to determine (roughly) what your BMI is, it's a guide for medics to determine risk for ops, etc but a useful way of knowing roughly what you should ideally weigh.
