Just think of healthy eating day to day and how relieved your knees will be when you lose some weight. Good luck!

Hi there, well done for getting started. I just wanted you to know that I have more than 4 st to lose and have very sore knees, but this has not stopped me losing weight and going for it. I have battled through some pain with my knees and have been told to rest by my better half but just kept going. I knew if I stopped that I may have stopped altogether and I didn't want this for myself. I have continued and now my feet hert and my knees but I'm not stopping. The whole reason for the pain is the weight gain so if you can, keep pushing yourself. Break through those walls and best of luck.

I know how you feel, I have bad feet and ankles, and know they would be a lot better without the extra weight I,m carrying.

I have 5 stones to lose and am trying my best, but it is hard.

Hi jackieeb, thank you for sharing. I know it's hard but there comes a point in which you have to tell yourself you can do this. I am in pain right now but it ain't going to stop me working out later. I feel more confident than I ever did with this change i've made. I have always had the knowledge and know how to get there but pain has got in my way in the past that's why this time I have decided to push past this and continue.

What I tend to do is watch a biggest loser or extreme weight loss before going for a workout cause just watching these people inspires me. These guys are bigger than me and are doing it so why can't I is what I tell myself. This gives me the motivation to get up and go.

I wish you luck on your journey

Good luck, just picture yourself with all that weight gone, and your better knees and health, that should be your goal, even if the starting line is tough

I used to have very painful knees, but I lost the three stone I needed to on the 5:2 Diet after watching Michael Mosley's excellent Horizon programme in 2012, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" tinyurl.com/qzgo7tq or tinyurl.com/a8ppjl7 and went from a size 16 to a size 10 by eating 500 calories two non-consecutive days a week. I've been maintaining my weight loss since April 2013 by just fasting one day a week - in the past I piled the weight back on as soon as I finished 'dieting'. I'd very much recommend you read Kate Harrison's book, "The 5:2 Diet" (tinyurl.com/qe6mz4u) - it really does work and it will save you a fortune (towards your smaller clothes!).

I'd also very much recommend a free app for your phone called MyFitnessPal. Counting calories is very important so you can see how much you're eating and therefore eat mindfully rather than mindlessly. There are excellent videos in the Help section on the app that show you how it works - there's even a barcode reader to scan in branded foods.

It's important you don't eat more than your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) on non-fasting days. You can work that out here thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-.... If yours works out at more than 2000 then aim at 2000 on non-fasting days.

Here I am in the Daily Mail on 7th January tinyurl.com/m7rqecq. The other two ladies’ stories are inspiring!
