Do any of you suffer from back pain because of your weight?
I'm sure mine is due to my fat belly and my BMI is 36.

I suffer with a bad back had it since i was 17 was told weak muscles and that losing weight would help. Still aches but not as much as it used to
I've noticed more pain in my lower back and knees since my weight gain x
Weight does affect the back, especially the lower back.
Yes definitely try swimming to help strengthen your muscles,I was told for every pound you are over weight it puts 3 pounds of extra stress on the knees etc.im 3 stone overweight and in horrible pain most days with athritis,only I can change that and I'm now working hard at it.try the 5-2 diet but do 800 calories instead of the 500 on fasting days if you find it difficult,some days I can do the 500 and some I can't so I give myself that lee way to help.i was prob on 3000 calories each day so it's a huge improvement for me and already after a week im not so bloated around my fat tum.im not checking my weight for a month and I have used a cloth tape and taken waist hips arms thighs tum measurements so it'll be interesting to see if there's much difference at the end of my month.the diet programme on bbc2 the last two nights was really good try catch up tv and watch it if you missed it,it was really informative,I was "a feaster" when I did the online test.good luck and what a fab help this website is thank you.
I have the same problem with my weight gain. All my joints and lower back are painful, thankfully not all together but most days I will have aches and pains somewhere with my body.
I'm hoping this will lessen as I lose weight.
I suffered for a decade with Back Issues, not sure if it was my weight that was the initial cause but it certainly did not help, I posted yesterday the following on someone elses thread about Sciatica, which might help;
##############
I suffered for years and years with debilitating back and joint issues including Sciatica, unable to take Anti-Inflammatories, I was left daily taking Tramadol and Amitriptyline, some days it felt like I was carrying a Baby Elephant on my back, I was unable to access any kind of free therapy for it due to my weight, it was awful and one of the reasons that drove me on to lose so much weight. I lost the majority of the weight without exercise, because for the reason I stated above, most day it was all I could do to walk.
Anyway after losing the weight I was referred to Neurosurgeons for help and after various scans and investigation they concluded that I had a form of degenerative bone disease affecting my spine and various joints, and they basically prescribed running believe it or not, which at the time if I am honest you could have knocked me down with a feather, I was very sceptical! It is that which lead me to the NHS C25K program which I completed a couple of years back now, I've been running regularly ever since and I have never looked back. Occasionally I get an issue with my back, normally when it's very cold and I've been doing something repetitive, or lifted something stupidly and awkwardly but it's a rarity, it really is and even then what I've found is I recover from it very very quickly, day or two usually and it's hardly debilitating at all during that time, a couple Paracetamols or a small Dram normally knocks it on the head
Yes i do very much and finding it hard to.walk very far just started the 5/2 diet heres hoping
Yes, since putting on weight I suffer pain in my lower back, knees and ankles. I've started the 5 - 2 diet as well as others here. I've lost about 2 kgs and notice the difference already. Pain gone in my knees and ankles but still a slight pain in lower back. I've been onto the BBC website (I'm in Australia) and downloaded the "which diet is right for you" booklet onto my ipad. It's full of great info. I'm on a strict no carbs diet 2 days a week (which is very doable) and then healthy eating for 5 days. When you don't eat carbs the ketones are raised in your body which enables your body to burn fat (think I've got that right.)
When I first started rambling again I could only walk about 4 miles (with a lightly loaded day-bag) before my back was aching enough for me to want to end the walk. That was about 8 months ago. I was 90kg. Since then I've lost a total of about 5kg and, carrying the same bag, can walk up to about 10 miles before my back even starts to ache.
The improvement may be because I have lost a little weight, because I've strengthened my back muscles (and am generally fitter), or both (so not very helpful I'm afraid).
