Beyond help
Ok, so try not to secret eat, forget the nibbles, that is important, you prob know what to do food wise!
Hard as it is, try to be distracted, after meals and two roughly 100 cal snacks a day, a hot healthy drink helps ( it does for me) soothing, and comforting, you then start to habit form a great habit.
By occupying yourself with a film , walk or whatever, your brain won't be so preoccupied with food, folk prob do judge you, they know little of your inner battles, let them think what they like!
Take care and good luck! Xx
Thankyou for your advise Il try it ill be weighing myself later so hopefully Tha helps me relise and get more determined
I am no fitness guru.I have been eating healthy and exercising only since 4 days.So I am going to tell you what all I do
Better than maintaining a food diary download Myfitnesspal. Serves the purpose plus easier to use at anytime. Do this only till you are able to approximate caloric values of food you eat daily and if you get stuck anywhere use it again.
Firstly, you can eat whatever you want and you should know that. The more you keep telling yourself that I cant eat this I cant eat that you will want to eat that particular food even more.Eat whatever you want but in limited portions. Now the challenge is stopping eating a particular food item that you love once you have had a little. For that take a portion out and keep the remaining out of clear site. You will still want it but wait for 30 minutes and then you wont really want it anymore. This is what your supposed to do in the initial stages where you are unable to control yourself from eating particular food items.
Secondly, start the 5:2 diet.It makes your appetite reduce and decreases the desire to eat junk.My appetite has gone down in just 2 fast days.
Thirdly,Exercise at least 5 times a week.Once you do some form of exercise you tend to feel good and don't want to replace the calories you have lost with fattening or junk food.
Lastly,Don't eat more than 1400 calories a day. While doing so take one day at a time.If you have a lot to lose don't think that its going to be a long journey and i don't know how will I do all this for so long.Just do what you are doing and don't bother about tomorrow today.
I have been on all possible fad diets only to give up in 2 days max. This time I am doing great and I know it.My appetite has decreased in 4 days(its like a miracle to me).I walk daily and shockingly enjoy it(however I do struggle getting started at times). But, I just love how i feel now.I eat healthier and most importantly I don't feel like eating junk all the time.
This forum is great and motivates me like crazy.
Just keep going. You'll reach your destination soon.
Good luck!
Hi Kimmy, first of all I know how you feel - it is scary and at times feels impossible but honestly, the only way to do this is to bite the bullet, get on the scales - I know it's hard, the result will no doubt take your breath away - but you have to identify the problem to deal with it. I weighed myself for the first time in 18 months on Monday, I was 17st 11lbs, my heaviest weight ever and if I hadn't plucked up the courage to do that I would still be wandering around thinking I was about 15st or so. It woke me up, gave me a kick up the backside to find out I am presently morbidly obese and the determination to get my health back on track once and for all is here in spades at the moment. More than happy to buddy up if you want and help each other. And yes indeed, if you want to do this, do it for you, no-one else. At your own pace, in your own time, but just make that first move, get on the scales and work out a plan. Good luck xx
Good girl, just take a deep breath and get on - that I promise you is the worst part! Then you'll know what you're dealing with and we can all help each other. Be brave - it will be worth it. My legs were like jelly afterwards and I was tearful at the time, but I'm still here
Thanks Il let u kno once iv weighed myself with the verdict
... or don't step on the scales at all. Is it really necessary to know The Number? You can also work with dress sizes. Or just feeling good about yourself. To start with, anyway. If you have a problem sticking to the diets and plans, focus on just one thing, eg. every day have a healthy breakfast. Or every day have a walk. And once this one thing becomes a habit, i.e. you don't have to think about it anymore, change another. Chances are after you get used to it, you will actually like your porridge or your walk, and it will be easier to change one more thing. And once you have accumulated enough good habits, you can go on diet properly.
Most plans fail because we attempt to make drastic changes to our life. And that takes too much of our attention and focussing on the changes... which we don't have because we also have a life outside our plan to revamp everything completely in one day (20+ years experience with that approach).
Numbers help, I was just so glad when I got below 11st, it felt like another step, and also signalled another dress size down
I don't dispute that, Diana. What I was trying to say is that if you have to lose a lot, the goal is so big and so far away, that it's very easy to give up. Also, you work hard all week (dieting and exercising, and let's be honest, counting calories does take time) towards an uncertain result. One slip may jeoperdise the whole effort. If you set a goal of having good breakfast every day, you only need to pay attention for 15 min in the morning, the result is very clearly visible and you are in much more control over the outcome than if you say "lose a pound by the end of the week". And as you progress, you get more and more confidence that you can have control, plus with some good habits, you no longer need to make very drastic changes - only half-drastic :). (And you may already have lost some weight in the process of getting a walk every day, as a lovely side-effect.)
I have only joined less than two weeks ago, just before New Year, and it breaks my heart to see so many posts around New Year and never see those people come back again. I so wish they could use an approach that gradually builds healthy habits rather than focusing on what the scales say and try to suddenly overhaul their life. That's doomed from the start for many of us. (Again, I don't say it does not work for many, but for many it does not. So I wanted to offer kimmy an alternative.)
Well weighed myself and just as expected I am 16st 1lb so need to concentrate to get don't at least to 10 st
Hi Kimmy
I lost three stone (42 pounds/20 kilos) on the 5:2 Diet (Fast Diet) in six months but I know others who have lost loads more. It's totally free to do and the results are amazing. Countless thousands have had spectacular results this way. What's more important is that it's very easy to maintain your weight loss after you've lost the weight you want to, instead of piling it all back on again.
The diet (or way of life) stemmed from a marvellous BBC Horizon programme called "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" in August 2012 which is on iPlayer tinyurl.com/qzgo7tq or tinyurl.com/a8ppjl7 if you can't see iPlayer.
I learned from it to switch to eating from smaller plates and I stopped nibbling in the evenings - too large portions are most people's problem nowadays.
Then Kate Harrison brought out her book The 5:2 Diet in October 2012 - I followed her instructions and by April all my excess weight had gone! It's really easy, and only two days a week rather than dieting every day. I used MyFitnessPal to log my calories, also free.
I was featured in the Daily Mail on Wednesday tinyurl.com/m7rqecq amongst other success stories.
Good luck, and please ask me any questions you like.
