Why is it easier to gain weight than lose it? (A moan).

I am very annoyed with myself. Over the last few days I have kind of fallen off the wagon slightly and have been eating and drinking stuff that I shouldn't eat/drink if I want to continue losing weight.

I decided to face the music this morning and jumped on the scales...I have re gained the 4lbs that I had lost :(

Just having a moan really, please feel free to kick my ass, or say something encouraging, I need it right now.

Everyone falls off sometimes. I am actually just really sympathetic as I know how soul crushing that can be, it's stupid that's how it works (clearly, we should lose a stone a day on a diet) and I don't know why it does. All I can say is even though you probably really don't want to, kickstart again and remember how proud you were to lose the weight. If you lose enough there's no way you can put it back on in a few days. Also if you had a binge maybe you were being too hard on yourself in the diet. You have to have treats or you're going to really crave them. I had a slice of dominos last night even though it was a million calories, because I knew if I didn't id get resentful everyone else had pizza. Another thing is sometimes the diet feels like another thing on top of all the things I have to do. So I have cut back on exercise and just done the eating healthy. Keeping it simple is helping me stick to it.

Join the club! I also lapsed yesterday, went out and ate a roast pork dinner, dessert , cheese and several glasses of wine which went straight to my head cuz Ive cut right back on alcohol in the past six weeks.... so have woken up today feeling bloated, hungover and craving buttered toast !! But will get back on the wagon as soon as my head improves :)

Hi Cleggie34,

Try not to be disheartened by weight gain on the scales. I gained 4.4 pounds after a weekend of excess and went on to lose it plus some more a week later - then this week I've gained 1.2 pounds, so it's a bit up and down, but I know that I need to keep on track and stick to the goals and healthy eating choices wherever possible, and keep my exercise levels up. Then the weight loss will happen. So keep going Cleggie! Don't give up! You will hopefully lose some weight next week.

Best of luck with it!

Lowcal :-)

Hi cleggie34 my advice to you is don't dwell too muchon what has happened just pick yourself up and start again we all fall just don't let yourself stay down thats when the real trouble will happen look forward not back

Hi Cleggie34,

It isn't. Not necessarily. Some people have dreadful problems gaining body weight.

But some of the reasons why MOST people find it only too easy to gain weight it about our culture, advertising, the behaviours of food manufacturers and retailers, the way people bring up their children to think about food, etc., etc., etc.

The facts are as a society, we are often encouraged to eat rich, luxurious, fatty, creamy, sweet, calorie rich foods and generally speaking in large quantities if possible.

Even down to things like - you've been a good boy so here's some sweets / ice-cream / chocolate cake.

Basically, most people find it only too easy to put on weight because, in one way or another, they have been 'trained' to eat in a way that will make them put on weight.

Change the eating habits - change the body weight. (Usually).

If u feel hungry, try eating fruits or drink ice water that should take away the hunger pangs
