Young at heart: Is there a group... - Weight Loss Support
Young at heart
I have been reading all the guidance on dieting as I desperately want to lose some weight but am finding it hard at 61. I would love to have someone for support in my challenge to lose weight and get fitter.
Hi, I am 63 and I have got to lose some weight also. It is easy for it to go on but not so easy to come off. I will join you if you like, then we can keep each other motivated. Going to look into 5-2 diet, not sure about it though.
I feel a bit the same about the 5:2, but many people on here seem to be doing well on it. I logged on yo my fitness friend yesterday, that counts your calories for you. I'm going to stick to the 12 week plan till after Christmas. Then re assess where I'm up to . I have a horrid cold which came on last night, so my hot lemon and honey may just take me over today but I'm keeping an eye on my menus, and calorie count.
Hi glamour60plus
I no it's hard, I need to lose at least 2 stone, if it helps I am going to start the 12 week plan ( from nhs choices, there is a link on here somewhere) this comma Monday 4/11/13 , so come along with me, we can support each other. I shall be spending the weekend looking up some recipes and shopping so that come Monday I will be ready to start. Do give it a go or follow whatever diet works for you but keep in touch, and that way we can help each other,. Whatever you decide good luck.
don't start Monday.. star now ! I do the 5.2 diet... works for me... 2 days of restricted calories ( 500) & the 5 days of normal healthy eating... still have to be sensible tho' if you want to shift weight at a more mature age
You are right of course I just thought someone might like to start Monday with me. 5:2 not sure about that , but I will look it up, can I come back for advice if I need to? Thanks
I'm nearly 64 and lost three stone in six months - I'm now a size 10 for the first time since I was a teenager! I just ate up to 500 calories on two non-consecutive days a week and just ate sensibly on the other days. It was so much easier than I expected it to be - and it worked!
Everyone is talking about this I must look into it, thank you I don't think I was a size 10since I was a teenager also, thanks for replying
The original Horizon programme it's based on ("Eat, Fast and Live Longer") can be found on vimeo.com/54089463. At 63 I'm getting rather keen on living a lot longer - as long as I'm fit and well. If you need to know anything else about it then please do ask. I have loads of info I can help you with, and it really does work. Now I've lost the weight I just fast one day a week so I don't put it all back on again!
I'm 70 & don't think about it... it's only a number Cats11.. so don't worry... fat just gets harder to shift at a more 'senior' age ha !... Am sure there are many on here of 'a more mature' age, so don't let it worry you... fat is fat .. we are all in the same boat.. whether it be at 20 or 80 + Older & wiser I say :0
Hi Annie , thank you , I loved your post, am I older and wiser? There are times when I think I am growing backwards
Those of you over a certain age may remember the diet advice from 40 years ago! Go back to 'old-fashioned' eating. Avoid the processed, sugar filled food. Low fat food is a con. Cut down on biscuits, cake, bread, potatoes, it's a good alternative to the 5:2 diet, because it cuts down the amount of insulin in the body.
I started Pilates about 2 years ago and it's made a big difference to my general health, strength and flexibility.
Good luck to us all!
I read somewhere that serious dieters start NOW, not waiting til Monday. I started on a Wednesday (last week) We don't need special low calorie food, just eat less of your everyday stuff and move more (easier said than done at our age) which I've done for the last 10 days and lost 7lbs. Something needs to go "click" in our mind for us to succeed. Treat every day as "day one" good luck.
Hi Cats11,
That I'm aware of - there's a significant number of contributors to this board who are not "spring chickens" - myself included!
Yes I'm finding that out, it's good to know I'm not on my own . Love the dog .
