Has anyone had any operations to remove saggy skin or correct droopy boobs after a large weight loss?

Not had massive loss 3stone but being 50 I realise its all going south, I am at my lowest dress size since age14 I think sizes are getting bigger, but I have been doing weights (body pump classes) and my horrid overhang on my tummy is shrinking rapidly

Hi spoowoo,

Generally, surgeons won't undertake such procedures until they are certain that you have reached a stable weight.

How much of a problem skin folds and the like are depends upon a number of factors including how much weight you lose, how elastic your skin is (which also involves how old your are), and how quickly you have lost weight as well as a number of other factors.

I was reasonably surprised that I pretty much got away with it having lost a bit over 4 stone which was about 25% of my starting body weight, but apparently it's usually a bigger problem for people who lose over about 7 stone or so.

Improving your muscle tone will to some degree help you to hold what you have in the right places.

Hope that's helpful.

Thanks for your reply. That is helpful. When I have finished losing weight I will have lost over 7 st. I did it before, put it back on and am now losing it again so I know from last time how much saggy skin etc I had. It's depressing feeling happier about your weight but hating what you see in the mirror just as much as you did when you started.

Hiya! You said you lost a lot of weight before, were you excercising as well? I think that would help to tone you as you lose weight. I also have quite a lot to lose, after Christmas I was 19st 2lbs (eeeeek!!!), I'm down to 15st 5lbs now, but I'm aiming for around 10 stone, so I'm a bit concerned about sagginess myself :o) I lost 3 stone a few years ago (my start weight then was 17st 10lbs) so I'm hoping nothing happens to throw me off course this time! :D But yeah, as has been said, improving your muscle tone will help to a degree :)

I was speaking to my husband about the saggy skin - he told me not to worry as it will only be seen by him and Emerys ( the local undertakers) :)

Last time I started out about 20st and got down to 11st7lbs. I had no breasts, they were like empty pitta breads (honestly!). I got referred to local plastic surgeons but then I put on half a stone, then a bit more etc so the saggyness wasn't so much of an issue. I had lots of family things going on at the time and I took my eye off the ball and ended up putting on the weight back on. I was so disappointed in myself esp as I had worked so hard. It took a long time to find the want to start again but I did in Jan 11 and have now gone from about 20st4lbs to 14st to date. I'd like to get to 11st but I know I'm going to have the same problem with the saggy skin. My husband is so good, he loves me fat or thinner and doesn't care about any of the skin, it's just me who cares. I am exercising. I do the gym exercise classes and swim so I do something 2-3 times a week. My skin has been really stretched so there's no way all of it will snap back. I had lots of wrinkly skin last time. Oops sorry I have kind of rambled on there. :-s

Haha I like your thinking Prin! Also well done Helen!
