why am I so averse to exercise? I love tai chi, or pilates, thigns like that. live in beautiful area in beautiful dorset, yet still don't like walking..
I know it will make me lose weight faster , but still not motivated enough to do this. I wonder why???

Tai chi and pilates are exercise! There is no single way to exercise. We don't all have to jog or walk. Do what you enjoy - that's the secret to exercising regularly.
It's worth trying some new exercise activities that you've never tried before, because sometimes it can be surprising what you might end up liking. For example, I always used to look at runners with incredulity, wondering why they would want to put themselves through the act of running, but eventually I tried it myself, and it's really grown on me. I enjoy running now, and sometimes run up to 5K, which I would have never thought possible in the past!
Also, maybe you might enjoy walking if you were going with someone? Or walking a dog? Some of the dog sanctuaries like to have volunteer dog walkers, if you don't have one to walk. But like the NHS Choices Fitness editor said - good advice is to do what you enjoy, in order to enjoy exercising regularly.
do what you enjoy or you won't stick to it. There is no doubt speeding your heart up does help with weightloss and it is good for us. Lowcal's suggestion of c25k is a thought - even if you speedwalk the running sections - it may make the walking more purposeful??

As well as the notion of burning calories, there's another good reason for upping your exercise/activity levels.
As you gain weight your body adapts to the levels of visceral and subcutaneous fat and the weight gain by changing the amounts of certain hormones it produces. These regulate various aspects about weight such as feelings of hunger and satiation and processes such as fat burn and fat storage. This is one of the reasons why overweight people tend to get overweightier.
So upping the exertion a bit has a double benefit. But exercise does not need to be "sporty" as such, you could just go dancing and have a good bop. Or horse riding, or any of many 'leisure' activities that involve a bit of breaking into a sweat.
And, if like me, you'er no "gym-bunny", you can do all sorts of exercise in the quiet and privacy of your own home, e.g. floor exercises, Bullworker, rowing machine, step aerobics, etc., etc.
And many day-to-day activities like decorating, hoovering, washing the car can be included too. Even with today's labour-saving devices a good spring clean will normally raise the heart rate a bit.
thanks. will do that! I am fairly active. still doing a carer job at (almost) 65. and I do housework too. but, yes. must do the indoor exercise..soon!;))

The bit that I seemed to have left our (or deleted by accident) is that you can reverse most of those hormone changes in two ways a) getting slim and b) doing exercise and upping your activity levels.
