I have been diagnosed with an under active thyroid and put on tablets it is not stable. Do I follow a normal diet or do something different
Ask your doctors surgery for advice.
Have a google the following authors Mark Sisson and Robb Wolf there are two websites marksdailyapple.com and robbwolf.com there are also various interviews with these guys who are at the forefront of examining what we eat that makes us ill and what we need to do do to make us better again. Also listen to this interview I think it touches on the subject from memory.
I have hypothyroidism (under active) and due to my inability to remember tablets everyday it is not very well managed. I have managed to be more reliable lately....
You are normal, you can eat what everyone else eats.... people sometimes blame their weight gain on their hypothyroidism, but if you take the tablets, you should be able to lose weight as every else and not use it as an excuse (not saying you are).
The tablets just are an artificial way of you gaining thyroxine. once taking them and stable you will notice a big difference. Underactive thyroid can effect mood so sometimes I load my self with wholewheat pasta to help balance blood sugars.
Recap: You can eat and exercise as a normal person and lose weight as a normal person if your calorie intake and exercise ratios are right.
Good luck x
