Which is 'better' for you? A reduced fat Greek style yoghourt or a Lighter Greek Style yoghourt?

The reduced fat one has much more sugar in it and the Lighter one has more fat, but as this is from a milk product I would presume this to be healthier rather than extra sugar?

HI Lincslady31,

If you're trying to lose weight, I'd suggest you go with the one with the least calories in it (check the pack).

Unless you're eating absolutely tons of the stuff, I would have thought the slight increase in sugar from the fat-reduced one versus the slightly increased fat level from the other is pretty academic, both would surely be well absorbed into your overall daily intake of food.

If, by any chance, you really are eating lots and lots of this yoghurt, I'd be inclined to say to try not to and to try to put more variety into your diet.

Thank you for this advice. I do eat it on a daily basis, just a dessert spoonful with rhubarb or raspberries, for example. I will check the calorie contents of each next time I need to buy some.

Hi Lincslady,

I often have fat-free yoghurt with fruit and sometimes a wee dribble of runny honey on it and sometimes even some grated chocolate or a sprinkle of cocoa powder.

It's much better than what I would have done in the past, i.e. drown it in double cream!

If calories are close I'd simply go with the one that tastes best lol as usually I use less of something if it tastes good, I swapped mayo back to normal but as its so creamy I use tiny amount and I'm satisfied. It's funny how sometimes the low fat has almost same calories and often way more sugar content but if you take the fat out they have to flavour it somehow. However its attention to detail that helps you not get caught out and sounds like you are being very attentive which is brilliant :-) I was told at slimming club once of lady that gained weight and when they found out why it was due to her assuming all bread was equal in calories and she was eating a slice more than double the cals she thought it was! I checked cals on loaves and was shocked at difference. Good luck.

I personally use the weight-watchers Greek style flavoured single pots lemon and some other flavours, calories are 54 per pot, the low fat fromage frais with fruit in the bottom are 48 cal. If I am using for cooking I use what eve has the lowest calories, often fins fromage frais has fewer values than the Greek yoghurt and defiantly les than cream fraishe
