No periods

Not sure where else to turn as feel like hitting a brick wall speaking to gp.

I have endometriosis and pcos and had been on depo for a few years and then a different injection for a few years to. stopped this as side effects started to outweigh the benefits. I then got the implant fitted due to gyn advising this was an option which meant it I should start having periods etc relatively soon after stopping it (I'd discussed about starting family and didn't want to have to wait ages to try decide was its jag wearing off or fertility issues)

I got the implant out after a year of having it in Feb 2020 due to side effects. But no sign of period coming back apart from a slight bleed last Sept.

I am starting to get really concerned by this as surely it should be back by now and having no kids I am worried that the long term injections have caused issues with my reproductive system.

I've approached my gp on numerous occasions and just keep getting the generic your body will be just getting back to a rhythm or lose some weight (I had my period at a heavier weight than I am now). And they've said its not a concern atm unless your wanting to start trying for a baby.

I'm curious if anyone has had this experience after being on the injections for a long period and if you ever got anywhere with your gp.

I never had periods for years and I now have them in my 30's I was never on the injection. If you have PCOS there is the liklihood of irregular periods and sometimes even no periods. I imagine the injection hormones eventually wear off.If you are overweight, I would recommend loosing weight. Because if you want a child, give yourself the best chance of having a healthy child. I had 5 miscarriages including a late miscarriage. I lost 2 stone, and now 31 weeks pregnant. My cousin who's much bigger than me, has gestational diabetes in her pregnancy. Being overweight can mess with your hormones to get pregnant, so even if had periods before overweight, surely listen to your doctor and give yourself the best chance to get pregnant and have a healthy pregnancy.

All I would say try for a baby as soon as you can, to see if you do have issues and if you do then see a doctor. Speak to your gp if you haven't already, if you don't get a great response see if you can be Gynecologist, GPS are not necessarily aware of all areas of medicine, they know a bit of everything, not everything in greater detail as a specialist. Obviously if you have no luck in trying, you should get referred to fertility after a certain amount of time, maybe discuss this with your GP.

Hi, this isn't particularly useful but I'm equally not getting anywhere with the GP after 10 months with no bleed and keep getting fobbed off with the same "your body will settle eventually" response.

Given we want to start trying i got bloods done privately. The gyno who did them said there were no big concerns with the results (apparently he was expecting to see early menapause given a range of other symptoms) but said the combination of no bleed+trying for baby+PCOS means that i should be referred to a specialist sooner rather than later.

I then went back to my GP with a letter from the gyno and blood results to try get that referral but they're still not interested and are sticking to the 1 year wait guidance.

If it's an option for you i'd recommend getting the bloods done privately and reviewed by a specialist (not a GP who just checks things are in the right range but isn't trained to read the combination of results!). At least that provides some piece of mind or highlights specific areas to look at? I'd also keep pushing for the referral as perhaps your GP is more useful than mine! Until mine comes around i'll be using the time to maximise health!

finally have an update. Raised it again at a recent appointment (same gp as before) who is now a bit concerned that I’m not even getting a breakthrough bleed a couple times a year as I should at least get that.

Took bloods and swaps and he says everything was normal. He was referring back to my gynaecologist to get his opinion for next steps.

So hoping for a positive outcome now that I’m being taken seriously
