I think i have pcos

I started my periods at around 12, and they used to be every other month. i’ve never had a consistent period and for the past 3-4 years now (i’m 18 now) my periods come sporadically. i usually have anywhere between 4-9 months between each period. I find it extremely hard to lose weight also. I’m really concerned about PCOS and being infertile. I don’t really know how to approach anyone on this, how should i approach the GP? Can I ask for them to check if i have pcos? I really don’t want to be shut down and told everything’s fine, like i have heard some women have with pcos

This is how I started and I didn’t really get checked up as I was scared to find out the truth but deep down I knew already. Just a few weeks ago I went to my Drs with my boyfriend and we were told I had PCOS. A cyst on my left ovary was found. I was put on Metformin and I’m also taking Folic acid from the drug store to help. Hopefully il be able to conceive this year x

I suffered like this from a young age like you and I always knew something wasn't right but I never spoke to a doctor about it until about a year ago when my symptoms started getting their worst and I'm now 26, finally know that I have PCOS and a cyst on my left ovary. This is causing me to have trouble conceiving but PCOS doesn't mean your infertile. So talk to your doctor about it, it might be hard at the minute with them only really taking phone calls but its up to you if you want to wait to talk face to face. If you do get shut down then keep trying! My old GP used to shut me down on everything and then when i got my new GP who is amazing I found out quite a few things wrong with me. Make sure you see your GP instead of seeing a different doctor every time because this helps too and if they're useless try change GP maybe.
