Losing Weight: Slimming World Issues

Hi Everyone! I'm new here. I found out I had PCOS early 2018. Since then, I have found out the cysts on my ovaries are mild and I have been refused Metaformin. I decided to lose weight and back in mid-July this year, I have lost nearly 2 stone with Slimming World. The only thing is I am discovering that I have developed a guilt around food (even when I have eaten heavily) when I decide to treat myself. Syns, free food... I'm finding it all rather toxic and I'm hearing a lot about people joining the groups, losing a lot and then returning back to the groups after a year or so. I am worried if Slimming World is not as sustainable as it claims to be. I am a vegetarian who works five days a week in a little cafe... not important but I suppose that extra information is useful!

So my question is, has anyone found a way of losing their weight from their PCOS and in a way that has been a long-term and sustainable solution, vegetarian (and possibly vegan) friendly as well as being low-cost?

Hi! Yes I have pcos and lost weight on a low fat, high carb vegan diet. It's so easy and theres no groups/fees. Just google or youtube John Mcdougall Starch solution. I lost almost 2 stone in 6 months and literally tell everyone I know 😂

Hope this helps!

I know lots of people that lost weight with slimming world and kept the weight off but I also know loads who put the weight back on. The people that I know who are successful are the ones that either keep going to the groups or they just keep on eating well and change their lifestyle. No diet will work if you if you can’t keep it up and revert to eating really unhealthy food too often. I did try going to slimming world for a year and a half but it didn’t really work for me at the time. I loved the support and going to group but I struggled with certain food that would trigger me (binge eating) and being higher carbs. Another thing was talking about food it was really helpful when we would talk and share recipes but I also found my self getting a little too obsessive with food and what I was going to eat and what treats I’d be able to have. I also struggled to break my sweet tooth on slimming world cause I did love some of the Hifi bars. So although I loved my group for the woman that were in it I needed a break but I would still consider going back in the future because I loved the support.

So for a while now I just eat a low carb (mostly cut down the breads and pasta) moderate/high fat diet and I just do it on my own so I feel more in control of what I’m eating and just try and keep a good lifestyle. Although I’m not vegetarian or vegan I try and do a few days meat free where I love to cook soups now it’s super cold. I just try and keep my food as natural and simple as possible to cut out most of the processed foods and white carbs. I would also keep any eye on if you are getting a little obsessive with your food and that feeling of guilt. I would say don’t be afraid to talk about it in group or with just your friends in group as I’m sure you are not the only one that has gone through it. A few people in my group like me wouldn’t follow the slimming world diet fully and adjust it to their health/lifestyle but would still go to the meeting for support. I would just try and transition into the kind of diet/lifestyle you want and see how it goes you don’t have to give up slimming world right away but even if you do you can always go back. Some of us need the support so you can always look for groups online or on Facebook. Just try and not to feel guilty about food we are only human sometimes as well as what is good for us we want a little bit of what we like too. Good luck. 👍🏻
