CRP inflammation question.

Hi all

I was away in London at the weekend although I tried to keep to my diet as much as possible I had some red wines, a couple of cocktails and one dessert, I avoided any thing with gluten, the dessert could have had some but don't know what oils the breakfast was cooked in.

I put on 1/4 + of a stone which I lose within a few days when I eat normally.

This always happens when I am not at home.

I have discovered CRP inflammation, as the weight drops so soon after coming home I wonder if this is really fat as previously thought?

Does any one else suffer from CRP inflammation and does it cause weight fluctuations?

Hello

I'm presuming when you are talking about CRP you are describing C-reactive protein? If you are this is a non specific marker in your blood of inflammation. A high CRP (above 10) merely means that your body is undergoing an inflammatory response, this could be because of an infection, swelling, a flare up of an autoimmune disease or an injury or some other inflammatory process. CRP by itself will not cause weight gain as it is simply a marker (or symptom) of an inflammatory process in your body.

Hope this helps, if this was what you were talking about and you are concerned definitely talk to your GP as they will be aware of your past medical history they will be able to put it in context for you.

I have heard that pcos is sometimes called an autoimmune disease and that it where I made the link, maybe it is alcohol because I can't get happily drunk and the next morning I have a sore neck and shoulders that are tender to the touch like a bruise feels like. I don't know what that's about? And alcohol knocks me out.

I was just wondering cause I have read that food intolerance can cause inflammation. I am seeing the nurse soon for bloods I will ask her.

Thank you for the reply.

Last I had my blood tests done my inflammation levels came back *very high* but I'd also had a major surgery done a year ago that month, that is still not healed properly. Wouldn't be surprised if its partly to do with food related inflammation as well.

Hi

The food thing is what I am wondering, only coz this happens every time I go out for a few days with friends. I wonder if its alcohol cos I don't drink at home and that's all they want to do so I have some. But it doesn't like me i fall asleep all the time! 😒

And I always wake up next morning with tenderness in my neck & shoulders, like bruising? Don't know what that is.

I hurt my calf muscle and that made my leg swell for ages after.

Hope you're surgery is getting better.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi - sometimes with intolerances - you know you have it, even if you don't want to admit it. I was like that with lactose - thank god for lactose-free cheese and butter lol. Conversely I didn't believe it when someone suggested I might have a gluten intolerance. I kept a food and symptoms diary - and then the connection was obvious and undeniable. I was angry at first - now I accept that I simply can't eat gluten if I want to keep well. If you think that alcohol is causing a problem - it probably is. A diary might help to confirm it x

Hiya

I very rarely manage to go out for a drink without getting tired, which is very awkward as my husband & friends think so highly of being tipsy and I don't feel it. Whenever he we go out we always need to stop to sit in a pub for a few. Pcos doesn't leave you with many other options either. Its not so pleasant. 😪

I think I am also a little gluten intolerant, don't know, but it doesn't feel too nutritious and It seems to bung me up. Or it could be milk?

Which I have also given up.

I know it isn't always easy to work out what is causing the trouble.

Could be mixing them, i do feel pickled sometimes. Although I have seen that pcos effects the liver so we don't process alcohol like others. Bummer!

Hope you have your intolerance under control now.

Thank you - I'm getting there - I hope you feel you are too. It sounds like you have your work cut out when you're surrounded by a strong drinking culture. Good luck to you x
