Number of cysts??

When I was diagnosed with PCOS I was reported to have “more than 12” cysts in my right ovary.

Just wondering do they stop counting at 12 cysts or maybe could they just not see clearly??

Has anybody else been given a higher number than this?

Thanks ☺️

The cysts which are follicles really come and go anyway and are only a symptom and not the cause so the name is misleading as it isnt really ovary related

Sorry what do you mean not the cause? The cause of what? I thought it was ovary related I was told I have more than 12 cysts inside my ovary? Sorry just confused, newly diagnosed and don’t really understand

PCOS is not ovary related the name is misleading, years ago they thought it was the cysts (which are really follicles) were the cause of PCOS but further research has shown that they are not the cause. It is a hormonal imbalance that is the issue. PCOS is hereditary and can come down both the male and female line. We are pretty sure my husband is a carrier and my son will be too.

So you could have another scan in 6 months time and there are no cysts there but it doesnt mean you dont have pcos. 12 cysts is not that many, some ladies ovaries are literally covered in them but it does vary from person to person.
