I saw the gynaecology consultant today as we have had all relevant tests etc and we are currently a year and 6 months in to ttc! I went thinking I'd be referred for having my tubes checked and turns out I was right! He has said my options are to start metformin now and he will refer me for Hycosy test to check if my tubes are blocked. Then if my tubes are okay he will give me 6 months of clomid. He also said because I am so young (25) he would leave it at that for now and keep trying.
Anyway, anyone had one of these tests done? I don't have a clue how they are done etc and google isn't very helpful!
Thanks
Lauren

I had a laparoscopy to check everything so was asleep, I think with the tube test you are awake (take strong pain killers). It is important they are clear as clomid has a time limit and is only allowed for up to 9 months I think so it is a waste if your tubes are blocked.
Different opinions on metformin really - it can give you a reallllllly dodgy tummy so take it when you are not going out for a few days to see how your body reacts to you. Metformin is a diabetes drug and not licenced for use for pcos in the UK, where you checked for insulin resistance as you should be prior to going on it. Often it is the weight loss that helps ladies conceive but the weight loss is due to the awful side effects of it more than anything.
Are you checking to see if you are ovulating? I presume your partner has been tested as well?
Thanks for replying. Yes my doctor had told me not to go on metformin last year as people have bad side effects but the consultant said if I start on it now ready for the clomid? I'm due a diabetes screening apparently I wasn't aware I needed one but he's prescribed it anyway. I don't need to lose weight I'm a naturally slim person so hopefully I won't be ill with the drug. I work mon-fri too! I had bloods to check and it did show I did ovulate which was unexpected. Yes he's been tested all normal
That's good news that you ovulated, not sure why you have been suggested metformin tho as it is certainly not a fertility drug as such and as you are showing that you ovulate anyway then I don't really understand what it is for especially if you have not been tested for insulin resistance.
I don't think the sh*ts differentiate between if you are slender or fatter tbh, it is a side effect of the drug. Slim and fatter ladies can have insulin resistance due to the pcos so is worth being tested, I do not have IR. You should have a glucose intolerance test so a blood test, sugary drink then a further blood test which they often don't do any more as too expensive but it is how our body responds to sugar that needs to be seen and the Mb something test they do monitors it over a month but doesn't show the spikes (in my opinion)
I can't remember exactly what he said now! I wish I wrote things down. I just know he said what we can do is start you off on metformin now and then after your Hycosy if everything is okay then we will give you 6 months of clomid. He also said it's good to be on anyway because it keeps blood sugars low.
Sorry I didn't mean hopefullly I won't be ill because of me being slim I just meant in general I hope I don't have side effects I seem to get them with every drug I take lol. Iv not been offered that all Iv been offered is a blood test to test for IR. it's so confusing there is so much to take in and you don't think of things to ask until after you leave your Appointment! Thank you
