This is a huge topic. We should all avoid breaking up families but once you have taken the inherent animal cruelty to heart it can put the emotional pressure inside a family where vegans live with non-vegans. Yesterday I bought a pair of vegan shoes, and my wife (who is a vegan) said I should not be so fussy, possibly accepting shoes where the glue "might" be derived from animal products. The fact is she avoids looking at animal farm footage and is vegan more in support of me and is not as far down the rabbit hole as myself.

Anyone else any thoughts?

Personally I think you (or whoever finds themselves in this situation, as most of us do) are both on your own personal journey and there is room for both of your views. Your wife should support you in your decision and you should respect (as I’m sure you do) that she is not quite on the same page as you and this is how it is. No one is wrong and no one is right you are both where you are meant to be at this time.

Think sweating "the (seemingly) smaller stuff" just wraps us round the axel 🥴 & creates unnecessary irritation 🤨 — even conflict 😠💥😡 ?

Think we (each & everyone of us) do the best we can, as we can along the way. 😌 🙏

If we "push" or "make a fuss" at every little thing — when our beloveds just aren’t that deep down in the rabbit hole 🐇 🕳 along with us — we can create problems. 😧 🤭

Merely "living by example" (‘setting an example’ sorta speak) is good enough.

Over time, we may come to see the smaller stuff becomes "the bigger stuff", & we work our way through it at that time. 👍👍

If our priority is maintaining "peace ☮️ & harmony 😗🎶 😗🎶 " in the household, then gentleness 😌 is a kind way to ‘plant a seed’ 🌱.

If raucous, lively, kind-hearted debate 🗣💬 🗣💬 is our comfort zone, then by all means toss in a ‘thought bomb 💣💥’ & have at it! 😂 🤣 🙃

You can’t push people in a direction they don’t want to go. All you can do is try to subtly inform. Any sense your lecturing you’ll lose the argument. I’m the only vegan in m family. Not my wife. Not my 4 children and their partners.

I think as vegans we are still in the minority, I notice this the most when I am at work, all the comments and people thinking that hunting is just an acceptable hobbie.

It's great that your wife is supporting you and I completely understand her not watching the footage, although sometimes i wish more people would, so it can all be put a stop to all this.

There are diet vegans and lifestyle vegans. My friend can't find non plastic vegan footwear that lasts apart from wellie boots so will buy leather boots. Compromises each to his own

Hi Andy

Sorry I didn't see you post 9 days ago but this resonates with me as I'm the only Vegan in the family, my hubby is a meat eater and the rest of the family are also meat eaters. I do find it hard living with someone that eats meat and dairy but that's my hubby's choice and not mine, I feel he is an adult and can make his own choice. What I think about is my choice is making an impact and that's all good.

I totally agree with Agoodenough in that this is our own personal journey and we should respect each other. If people in life respected each other then we wouldn't have the modern day problems we seem to have today, a bit 'off piste' I know but I'm sure you get what I mean.
