I think that there are some smashing looking offerings here however the burning question is how animal free are they? This is because many are made using the same equipment to prepare as animal products including the deep fryers!
Being a coeliac I am very aware of gluten free foods being rendered unsuitable for me because of sloppy preparation standards causing either cross contamination or cross contact and this can have dire effects on coeliac like me.
So shouldn’t ALL plant based fast foods be kept totally plant based? And to me the simple answer is Yes and the savvy plant based fast foodie is now asking for their food to be prepared separately to keep it animal free which again shows the power of the vegan dollar.

I think that this is great but we need to let the burger co's know that its either plant based or its not. So have your say when ordering plant based fast foods and insist on high preparation standards. 💚

I have to say that if I do eat in a restaurant (which is now very rare) I shudder at how my vegan food has been prepared or cooked. I used to work in a gastro pub and that rather put me off!
I wouldn't eat anything fried unless I was assured it was cooked separately. Surely processed food described as vegan should be just that. No animal products.
Did Burger King (UK) not have to label their burger plant based and not vegan because of how its prepped? At the very least, it's something that they recognised that it wasn't vegan due to prep and put that in the small print of an advert I saw. Plant based is a marketing buzz term which didn't seem to be around a few years ago, people sometimes use it interchangeabley with vegan but the two words have different meanings.
I also struggle with the super "meaty" meat alternatives on offer these days. They seem to be aimed at meat eaters rather than long term vegans and are too much for me!
I do too to an extent, and actually find some of it outrightly off putting, they are almost too realistic! I remember the days when all we had to choose from was TVP or Nuttolene, along with the natural pulses , nuts and seeds. I would still, for the most part, stick to this simpler way, but it is remarkable the array of things to suit many tastes on offer these days.
What's nuttolene? Doesn't sound appealing! Have you been vegan a long time? I think one thing that's improved over the years is vegan 'cheese,' the old soya versions were disgusting.
I have been Vegan this time around for 6 years, before that Veggie for many many years, with Vegan years in between! Nuttolene is what's now known as Nut Luncheon, I think.
Hidden has put up quite a few posts of meals encorporating it I believe . It consists of peanuts and not much else, and was around in the 80s I’m almost certain, maybe even before! It's very versatile.
Thank you Jerry. Yes it is exactly the same thing, just a name change somewhere along the line. I haven't had it for a couple of years but you have made me want some now.
My Mum used to make a simple curry using it, more than 40 years ago! It's certainly stood the test of time! 😊
Oh that looks old school! I've been vegan/veggie many years as well and remember the days when something like that would be a real treat (and the sort of thing served in veggie restaurants). Probably something good to keep in the cupboard so I'll look out for it.
Hey they don’t appeal to me but I’m happy to share what’s on offer and of the pitfalls of everything plant based. And I’m a coeliac so couldn’t eat the sourdough bread.
