I am not sure which type of Vasculitus I have,But Since having Vasculitus< I have had eyesight problems but I am now almost 50. I just have to say I never had to wear glasses until after I got Vasculitus last year. Coincidence maybe but I really dont know but the best you can do is ask your management team to keep a check on your eyes and if they get worse you are on the way to finding out. If not you will have to try again, But good luck in your en-devour either way.

i have WG. probably coincidence but i have needed glasses since i was 16, which is about when my symptoms started. my orbits around my right eye are experiencing bony degradation and i have blocked tear ducts in both eyes (due to scarring in my nose) which means i have an ever increasing pressure on my eyeballs throughout the day until i drain the eyes, this pressure causes my eyeballs to deflect and adjust shpae throught out the day, hence my vision changes.

High doses of prednisolone can cause cataracts to form which can affect eyesight.

I can vouch for SusanCh's comment - I developed cataracts from high doses of prednislone when trying to get my WG under control. My eyesight deteriorated quite rapidly but my optician could not see anything wrong! Aparantly cataracts caused by medication can be different from those that occur more naturally.

I have had them fixed and now don't need glasses other than for close work - the first time in 55 years!

I have wg and have suffered from scleritis in both eyes and now have caroital folds developed in the back of the eyes due to posterial scleritis. I'm seen by Bristol Eye Hospital for treatment for the condition although it looks like the folds are here to stay. I also have blocked tear ducts probably due to the high dose steroids I have had to take over the years. Hope this is helpful.

Hi all, been a wg sufferer since 91 and developed scleritis in both eyes about 7 yrs later. This is along side blocked tear ducts due to nasal scarring. I have got into the routine of daily nasal douching and installing an air purifier in my bedroom as i have found if the nose is kept clean and reasonably unblocked it cuts down on tear duct infections and scleritis flare ups. Thats the theory anyway!

Hi, I suffer from episodic attacks of posterior scleritis just in my left eye and scans have shown there to be fluid behind my eyeball when I have had a run of attacks. They always occur in the early morning hours and I take Tramadol 100mgs & Ibuprofen 4000mgs andd after an hour oof writhing around in agony it finally settles...I also use a cold flannel compress. I really dread these attacks and want to rip my eye out. I was told by the eye Doc to carry on treating attacks as I am but to go to Hospital if it doesn't settle with pain relief.
