Hi Dave if you have been told that you have a form of vasculitis possibly caused by arthritis you are deemed to have a form of secondary vasculitis for which an underlying disease is the cause.A common trigger/cause for this can be rheumatoid arthritis. Vasculitis occurs when your immune system mistakenly sees blood vessel cells as foreign. The immune system then attacks those cells as if they were an invader, such as a bacteria or virus. It's not always clear why this happens, but an infection, some cancers, certain immune system disorders i.e rheumatoid arthritis or an allergic reaction may serve as the trigger. As any of the forms of vasculitis are relatively rare my non-medical opinion would have to be but not that common given the prevalance of arthritis . Hope this helps

Thanks Shelia, Its so hard to get answers from doctors as they always seem to give differing opinions.
