Has anyone had strange side effects after Rutiximab???

Since having my 2nd infusion 10 days ago all I can smell are daisies.., I know it's strange, but it's in my house, at work, my perfume.... The list is endless.

Unable to comment through personal experience but it sounds like a very pleasant side effect!

Could be worse, could be smelling s...t!. Don't know if this helps but sometimes when I have intra-venus infusions, I'm on dialysis, I can smell things. Sorry to not be much help. Enjoy the daiseys!

It is possible that this is a form of synesthesia (where the brain responds abnormally to stimuli) induced by the Rituximab. In synesthesia, a particular word or sound can be "seen" as a colour - and so on. It is definitely something you should report to your consultant. When people suffer damage to their sense of smell due to nerve damage eg in an accident, when the sense of smell comes back it is the nice smells that come back before the nasty ones. Which is probably not what you would expect.

According to David Jayne "There is a quite a wide range of adverse events after Rituximab. Most are mild and subside within 2 or 3 weeks" :-)

Hey All.

Thanks for your replies. I still smell the flowers but it is weaker now lol.

Unfortunately I hate the smell of daisies so it was a bit like smelling the other all day :0)

Still liking the cottage cheese though :oP x
