Hi recently diagnosed with IgA Vasculitis.Have dr appointment at end of month however I'm here again to ask has it affected anyone's eyes and quite quick after being diagnosed?
I had biopsy etc after 'thr raised rash' in July.. diagnosed August, but past 3 weeks iv had red itching sore eyes..well right eye now both are red.
The light affects my eyes quite bad, especially sitting in evening watching tv. I don't watch tv all day just at 7.30pm for soaps. Iv had to sit with sunglasses on I wonder if it's the blue light.
My question today is does IgA Vasculitis affect pur eyes?
Thanks

Hi Avocado-deb. Well I can only speak for GPA because that’s what I am being treated for but one of my first symptoms was red itchy eyes that turned to Episcleritis with significant pain, as soon as I started steroid treatment it went, when I relapsed it returned and was painful but steroid eye drops cured it. Then after two Covid infections 15 months apart I had Torn Retinas first in my right eye then in my left exactly 5 weeks after the infection in both cases that needed laser treatment. The Doctors put it down to my eyes were weaker due to Vasculitis and eyes can be affected by a rebound after Covid so yes! Vasculitis for certain can affect the eyes. When I originally went to eye casualty before Vasculitis diagnosis the Doctors were concerned it was Scleritis because that can be more serious but it want it was Episcleritis which is a textbook bi product of GPA so that could be your starting point. PS my Mum had GPA (Wegerners then) and she had same eye symptoms too. Hope you get better. Nick.
Contact your specialist nurse asap, or go to a specialist eye hospital. Vasculitis can seriously effect your sight. You need a specialist opthalmologist who has experience with Vasculitis.
Yes, vasculitis affects eyes. I have been told by the GP and by specialist consultant to take eye issue seriously and get my eyes checked at the eye clinic. So every time I have a flare up in the eyes, I book an appointment through Eye Emergency Referral System and get an opinion from experts and take the recommended steps.
What happens when eyes are affected ?
I have been prescribed steroid eye drops for 2-3 months at a go followed by regular eye drops. And then it happened again and am back on steroid eye drops. It is painful. The pain will not go away with paracetamol. When inflammation is more, my vision becomes blurry and no spectacle adjustments will help you see properly. The eye issue from Vasculitis has never gone away by itself. It needs treatment.
