Currently in hospital with Pneumonia. My CRP was 180 on Saturday and went up to 220 on Monday. Medics are going to do a procalcitonin blood test which I've never heard of.

Could one of you very clever forum members enlighten me

Procalcitonic is a biomarker that is specific to bacterial infections. Pneumonia can be viral or bacterial in origin but bacterial cultures take longer than the procalcitonic test. It is used in the diagnosis of sepsis and to monitor how effective an antibiotic treatment is being. Your CRP is so high because of the lung involvement.

Goes even higher if you have a hip replacement!!! Even a severe cold can send it up over 100!
