I have yet to get a letter telling me I'm high risk but am on rituximab and predisolone so know I am and just wanted advice on shielding. I live in a flat and have to come out into the communal area and go downstairs to get my post and also have to go out to take rubbish to the bins etc. I'm going out tomorrow to the GPs to have a pneumococcal vaccination and so as much as I'm trying to avoid going out and stay completely indoors its impossible. I've so far managed to avoid neighbours on the stairs but its bound to happen. I don't want to sound over the top but as there are reports it can stay airbourne for hours can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks all

Thanks Gilders, my rheumatology nurse has told me I'm very high risk and must stay inside, its scary when there are reports about it staying airbourne for so long but can only do our best to avoid it. Take care
Hi have you checked if anything has been set up in your area to assist ? We have local co ordinaries and help with shopping etc , and you can register on line on gov website as vulnerable, could a neighbour take your rubbish down if you put it out and remain 2 metres away. I am shielding but have family living with me and friends and online for shopping but I really feel for you with living alone
The letters and txts are finally coming through from the self registration link. The turn round seems to take 5/7 days.
Some Local Authorities are supporting the vulnerable with deliveries of food so do get in touch with them
Your local Citizens Advice Bureau May also be able to help with information if you contact them.
I would prearrange any appointments with hospital and GP practices and only attend if it is necessary.
If you have to go out... I would wear gloves and wash them as soon as you arrive home, in fact wash your clothes as soon as you arrive home and have a shower.
Be very aware of bannisters on stair cases..this virus can live for around 72hours on plastic and metal.
Hope you remain well! I have a question I would like to ask. I live in the U.S., in Massachusetts. I would like to know what kind of letters you are receiving from your government in regard to social distancing and/or high risk for COVID 19.
People who are classed as high risk due to medical conditions have been receiving letters advising them not to go out and have the option of having food and medical supplies delivered, this is for a period of 12 weeks to start with.
I see. I did receive a letter from my Vasculitis MD just saying that I am at high risk, but it doesnt entitle me to anything. I am fortunate enough to have family to help me.
I think at times it is difficult for me to ask for help!
Thanks so much for your replies, glad so many of you have got your letters now and hopefully are receiving help. I still haven't received any communication but am taking all the precautions I can, maybe a letter may turn up eventually.
Take care everyone and enjoy the weather, even if it is just through a window
