How quickly does someone's immune system become compromised when they are taking steroids? My 12 year old has been on 60mg for a week, reduced today to 30mg for a further week. I've read conflicting information which suggests as soon as you start taking steroids your immune system is compromised and other advise states that it takes a while. Thanks for your help

Are you maybe confusing adrenal function and immune function?
Corticosteroids are used to suppress the immune response that is the cause of whatever it is you need to take them for. As soon as those symptoms improve you have to assume that there is some effect on the immune system as a whole. The higher the dose, the sooner that will happen and 60mg is a very high dose for an adult, never mind a 12 year old.

Under the circumstances - I think you have to assume it is quick and take appropriate precautions.
It will usually take a couple of weeks but take care not to reduce the dosage too quickly! I’m sure you were given this advice and I’m surprised to note the reduction from 60mg so quickly! While on steroids, I was told maximum reduction was 10mg per week, in order for the body to readjust! Best of luck!🤞
