Hi, I need some help and kind words as I’m losing my mental stability. I had tender spots on my left arm and hand with mild kind of pain for Six months off and on. Quite manageable. But I was just curious and asked my family doctor. She jumped the gun and got me anca test done. It came out positive P anca. I have no symptoms other than tender spots which come and go. I’m going for further tests but freaking out and scared as I’m too sensitive to meds. Has anyone had it that if no symptoms it might be false positive.
I would really appreciate a reply.
Thanks

Can't help with the question I'm afraid, but I'm sorry you're poorly and having to go through this. All of us have been where you are now, with all the fear and upset. Stick on here while you're in the Kingdom of the Sick, people are supportive and knowledgeable. (well I'm not knowledgeable, but I'm feeling it with you! X) Sounds like you have a doctor that cares about you, that's a real blessing. Keep posting.
Most of us here would be more than happy to have such a diligent GP. Please try not to worry so much as if you do have Vasculitis it has been caught at an early stage and so you should have a much better outcome. If you need further information can I suggest that you call the Vasculitis UK helpline.
I haven’t had a false positive and I can’t guess at what might be going on, but this early stage can be the worst stage when you don’t know what is happening. I’m sure we’ve all been through it. I didn’t get properly diagnosed for years or get the right treatment for years but a consultant told me that symptoms may be all over the place to begin with but eventually they settle into something you can work with, and you get the appropriate treatment. It sounds as though you have a head start with your doctor. There is life after diagnosis! Take care Treadmills. And I hope it all settles into place for you. All best wishes.
Hi. You wouldn't normally be given a formal diagnosis of vasculitis solely on the basis of a positive ANCA reading. As Mooka indicates, you can have a positive ANCA reading for other reasons. If your only symptom is tender spots to your arm and hand then it doesn't sound typically like vasculitis but no doubt your Dr is keeping an open mind.
I have had a positive P ANCA test twice (tests were a year apart) and I have low levels of MPO antibodies. (I've had polymyalgia rheumatica for nearly three years and my rheumatologist just says that she'll continue to monitor me for any potential vasculitis issues since she already sees me every three months.)
My overactive bladder recently got even more overactive (I hardly thought that was possible) so my rheum doc sent me for a urine test. It showed microscopic blood in my urine but no urinary tract infection when cultured. A retest was done with the same results. Of course I thought oh no, is this some indication of vasculitis?
My rheum doc wasn't concerned and said she'll do another urine test in a few months. But my primary care nurse practitioner was concerned and sent me off right away for a urology consult. The urologist booked me for a CT scan of my bladder and kidneys next Monday. He says not to be alarmed and that it still might be just an infection because urine tests are notorious for not picking up on low-grade infections. I don't know what to think these days.
