I think the only way to find out is through a biopsy done by a dermatologist of a small piece of the skin. Do you have diabetes? How long have you had this? Any insect bites? Any allergies? To drugs or products, food?
It is clearly inflammatory. Until you see a dermatologist, I am sure you know to keep the area clean with hydrogen peroxide, followed with an antibiotic cream because you have an open wound there. I would cover with bandage if you leave home or just go outside.
If you have already seen a dermatologist, demand a biopsy.
Some the naughty ones but because I am a kidney transplant person I have to go every 3 months so will ask them when I go I’m not sure if I had a bite a few months ago and yes it was very similar
I have district nurses in twice a week but that problem is nearly at its end but I will mention it to. Them again thanks very much for replying june will let you know how I get on
Hello. I am not usually on this site, but like to read posts with which I can maybe identify. I am prone to leg ulcers, and although yours has not been identified as such, on your arm, I'm sure you might find relief when I suggest dressings of VISCOPASTE. My last ulcer cleared rapidly and visibly, when my wonderful surgery nurse, after trying other methods, incl. trip to dermatology, tried this and it worked. I keep a supply at home, so that I can nip any wound in the bud. Hard to believe that your DN haven't done anything for you? I do hope you get swift relief. It really looks painful. I feel for you.
Thanks for reply I have no pain until I press on it thinking about it I had one similar to it last summer and after months it disappeared but left my arm in a mess it was getting better so let’s hope it keeps going the right way xx
I should ask for a referral to a tissue viability nurse. Your DN can refer you. The Viscopaste dressing is definitely worth a try. As a nurse myself I've seen it work miracles too.
Can you purchase Viscopaste without a doctor's order? I have one small open spot on my foot wonder if it will help. It's always amazing how we are our own best doctors and nurses.
It looks very much like what i sometimes get, folliculitis which in turn then turns into cysts, abscesses or cluster boils. It stems from what the American doctors call a staph infect and I think it mean streptococcus over here
Please visit your GP as I’ve had a few surgically removed. The worst was on my scalp. If I ever go bald I will look awful with the scar it left
