I have one question for all of you. Have anyone of you ever been on meds for high cholesterol?

I developed raised cholesterol after being on pred for 3 years for polymyalgia rheumatica which is a large vessel vasculitis that causes severe muscle pain itself. I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation when I was in hospital for back problems and then persuaded by a non-cardiologist hospital doctor to take statins. Because I was so reluctant I was promised I would be monitored closely and given Lipitor rather than simvastatin which does have a bad record for muscle pain. Within 10 days I felt awful and struggled to walk 50 yards on crutches (needed for an achilles problem) - it wasn't pain as much as incredible weakness and breathlessness. I stopped taking the statin which I was only taking on alternate days anyway. I felt notably better within a few weeks, but it took nearly a year to get back to where I had been beforehand. The cardiologist was fine about it - atrial fibrillation doesn't count as a cardiac event as far as she's concerned and I needn't try with another.

I was on 20mg of Simvastatin for several years but cholesterol remained at 5.6 with LDL at 3.5. Cardiologist changed this to 40mg of Atorvastatin last month. Am now monitoring results of change. I have Rheum. vasculitis with myocarditis.

Tried Simvastatin but it had a bad effect on my liver function. Consultant would like me to try a different one and I am reluctant but cholesterol levels are above 6 so am considering. My diet is good and I am only slightly overweight. Prednisolone at 5mg a day with methotrexate 15mg once a week.

I've been on 40mg Simvastatin for about 10 years and have never had any side effects.

Cholesterol now controlled at 4.5.

Hi, my GP and Cardiologist thought it would be a good idea when my steroids are very low as I do have high cholestorol. White blood cells and inflamation going up at the moment and Respitory Specialist says to up the Pred a bit cos Mycrophenolate may not be working. So doesn't look like they will put me on statins yet.

I've been on 40mg Simvastatin for about 13 years with no side effects. That was after heart bypass, cholesterol was never high to start with.
