Dupuytren's Contracture anyone?

I have got a lump under the ring finger of my left hand. The doctor says it is Dupuytren's Contracture, He says it is not to do with my vasculitis but as it is on the same hand as the nerve damage I just wondered.

Snap! Mine is on my right hand and all my symptoms were on the right of my body. Likewise my rheumy said it was not linked to vasculitis. I do work with someone who also has a DC and she has no medical condition that I am aware of. I guess we will never know if it is linked although I did hear a nice story that it means we are descended from Vikings as DC is typically a Scandinavian thing!

Snap too! I now have a permanently bent finger on my right hand as well as the lumps and bumps at the top of my palm; but no pain. As far as I know it is nothing to do with my vasculitis.

Mine is inherited from my father, and my brother and sister are also affected. Interestingly they've had theirs operated on, but my doctor says that I need much worse deformity before he will recommend surgery. Different health authorities!

I've read a bit about this as my mother has it. There is now a new enzyme treatment that is easier than having surgery. I understand it's better to have it treated this way sooner rather than later and cheaper for the NHS.

Hi All

Isn't genetics interesting. I have ancestors that came from Thurso, so maybe I am descended from vikings. I would never have thought about that as I have dark hair and tan easily but then the other side of the family are from the south. What a mixture we all are.

It also says on the info the doctor printed out that it could be caused by a trauma which made me think it might come from having the nerve damage. Like you say we will probably never know. It isn't bothering me at the moment so I am inclined to leave it alone but if it gets any bigger I might look into the treatment. (I don't fancy surgery) I will also ask around the family as I don't think anyone has mentioned it.

The builder constructing new steps outside our back door has disappeared for the rest of the day as he is off to hospital for his injections! He has three fairly crooked fingers and a swollen palm. A large fair man from Lincolnshire - could be a Viking?

Sounds like the right man to be your builder! How is he on boats? Ha Ha I am going round looking at every ones hands now!!!!

Yes I Get or, more correctly, used to get something similar; I was told it was more related to Rheumatoid Arthritis, that I was 'borderline' for about five years ago. I can still get 'attacks' though not many recently. Do you have this condition, on top of everything else? I don't know about injections not something I've heard of, sorry. Please do let me (us) know, will you?

That is strange. The doctor said it wasn't related to my Vasculitis but when I was diagnosed part of it was as 'arthritic' and I have got a clicky hip/back at the moment. Not painful just clicky.... I shall mention it to my consultant in July.

It also says on the paper the doctor gave me that it could be caused by trauma and surely losing the use of your finger could be classed as trauma.

Curiouser and curiouser.......

We are at a family do on Sunday so I will be examining everyones hands...
