Clinical trials are sponsored or funded by a variety of organizations or individuals such as physicians, medical institutions, foundations, voluntary groups, and pharmaceutical companies, in addition to federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense (DOD), and the Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA). Trials can take place in a variety of locations, such as hospitals, universities, doctors' offices, or community clinics.

Were you made aware of who sponsored the clinical trial you participated in? Did you feel supported by them?

Hi, I have been on a clinical trial and for me it was the best thing I could have done. I was using a wheelchair 90% of the time as my legs were so painful, the skin on my arms, chest, hands, and shoulders was so tight and hard and was progressing at an alarming rate so my consultant suggested I give it a try.

Within 3 months I knew I was not on the placebo as my condition started to improve. I have finished the trial now and have been off it at least 2 years. After finishing the trial I was much improved although I seem to be getting worse again . Without people going on these trials we wouldn't get any further so I feel we will all benefit by taking part.
