My tinnitus coping mechanism

My coping mechanism for my tinnitus is to cup my hand over my ear so it makes the sound of a tunnel or cave and it also brings my anxiety down.

I wish you could make your own ear masker to make this sound.

Hi Jude,

Good for you if that works! Sometimes the simpleast things can be the most powerful.

Why not take a look out there at some free basic recording software - Audacity - is a good one but there are loads that are pretty easy to get to grips with and you can make your own masking sounds to then load up as tracks in a playlist or wherever.

Your hearing is enabled by the pressure of air via tubes. The ear canal is a tube that often becomes blocked with wax. Your eustachion tubes can also become blocked or retracted slightly if low barometric air pressure has been the cause. If you come down to sea level from a high altitude too fast then tinnitus might be evident due to the rapid pressure change. If you drive a car with the drivers window open then air may be sucked out of your ear and leave you with tinnitus for a while. Tinnitus is like an air raid siren in wartime. It is a warning that something is wrong. Doctors rarely think of environmental conditions being the cause of tinnitus so it is a waste of their time going to discuss the issue with them.
