Hi...I've posted before about my husband whose had severe tinnitus and hyperacusis, following a 12 mth battle for help a CT scan showed problem in left ear which was where predominantly tinnitus was. Hyperacusis that bad couldn't go out house. He had exploratory op on Wednesday and a tympanoplasty was done repairing a damaged membrane. Few days layer his tinnitus is as bad as ever ..I don't know whether this is a reaction to the operation and it will be a process of waiting for eardrum to heal I hope so I just wondered if anyone else had gone through this op.
Tympanoplasty : Hi...I've posted before about my... - Tinnitus UK
Tympanoplasty
I had one of the first tympanoplasties ever performed (so they told me) when I was 12 years old. That was a lot of years ago! I now have constant tinnitus but it’s in the other ear so, from my single experience, I couldn’t say there’s necessarily any link between the two events.
Hi Spinach123
What have the doctors said about what they expect to happen next (Post Op)? Was the purpose of the surgery to resolve the Hyperacusis/Tinnitus?
We know with certainty that our perception to Tinnitus is heightened when we are anxious or stressed so please encourage your husband to try his best to find ways to alleviate this anxiety.
Its also tough on people supporting people with Tinnitus so please be kind to yourself also
Thank you it is indeed hard watching someone you love cope with this debilitating condition. Chris my hubby had tinnitus for several years was controlled with maskers then last year got a bud from his maskers stick in ear canal which catapulted the reactive tinnitus/hyperacusis. Consultant said I repairing membrane and also cut nerve in left ear should cure hyperacusis, he may be still left with tinnitus and Chris is expecting that like before can be controlled with maskers, he can't say atm if hyperacusis is better as the tinnitus so bad. I did speak to aftercare dr from hospital who said tinnitus likely worsen whilst ear drum mends. Have follow up in 2 weeks.
