I posted recently that my life with hyperacusis and tinnitus is like being stuck in a city traffic jam.
What analogies do you use to describe your tinnitus and/or hyperacusis? Does it help others understand?

my T has changed over past month and is now like a pressure cooker letting off steam with the whistling noise - before this is was more of a mid tone buzzing , like the noise of traffic ( similar to yourself)
its not as loud in daytime as an actual pressure cooker would be - at nightime more so, I would say
I would say that I am sitting in front of an old radio with the volume up high inbetween stations - that hiss - constantly.
Hi Dave
Would rather not describe the sound today... shattered... but I FEEL like someone pushing a boulder up a hill then there's a bit of respite at the top...til it happens again! That is how it is for me as a personal challenge.
Take care, Linds xx
Have a great day folks, raining in Scotland but hopefully not long til better weather. xx
Like having a generator inside me and also a choir which loves to sing hymns and carols amongst other tunes.
The constant aftermath of a loud explosion
You have to be old for this one, when the TV used to end at night and the white dot replaced the TV programming, the associated high pitched whistle is how my T sounds
I describe Tinnitus as like listening to an out of tune loud radio which you can't adjust.
Loud gas hob for me!
