small ear canal plugs/ clearing ear wax

I have severe hyperacusis and severe tinnitus.

I have small ear canals. Someone wonderful in my life, told me to get some filter custom made ear plugs to try and get back into living life. ACS plugs. The audiologist found some wax in my ear and refused.

Im too scared to put anything in my ear to remove the wax to make my condition worse. What do I do?

Im housebound and these plugs were meant to be a life line.

Does anyone in the UK near the midlands use a manual curator to remove wax?

please please please - do NOT use anything mechanical to remove wax from your ears. Anything you put in your ears simply pushes the wax backwards towards your eardrum and makes the wax even harder. And might damage your ear drum.

I know nothing about earplugs, but if you search the website of Tinnitus UK you might find something useful. Or give them a ring (details on their website) from Monday.

If you are housebound, it might be that Specsavers could visit you?

Hello SpecSavers remove ear wax and they do home visits, so they should be able to help. You can buy an ear spray called Otosan, it gets very good reviews on Amazon, and is for keeping the ears clean and removing excess wax, all natural ingredients.

I also have narrow ear canals (well, my left anyway) and suffer from the regular build-up of wax. I visit an audiologist for wax removal about every six months these days. I used to have my ears syringed at my doctor's surgery, which was OK for me, but the audiologist uses micro-suction or a manual method to remove the wax. I'm not keen on micro-suction as it is noisy but I now trust my audiologist to use the manual method, which is fine for wax in the lower canal. If there is wax near the drum, micro-suction or syringing is required. I use a water-based spray called Audiclean three times per week to try to keep the wax at bay. It is gentle on the ears and seems to work. I had hearing aids, which I stopped using, but I actually find that putting them in from time to time removes some of the wax when they are pulled out. They have turned into very expensive wax removers :)

I use a pair of over the ear noise cancelling headphones to help with the hyperacusis. They make a huge difference when I go out and even make going on the tube bearable.
