I’m just interested if anyone on HRT has stopped it (gel and progesterone tablets) and found their tinnitus decreased. My doctor has suggested coming off it to see if it will reduce the tinnitus.

Stopping HRT for tinnitus
As a general guide for anyone experiencing menopause and having concerns about tinnitus, this is our website's advice on the topic - tinnitus.org.uk/understandi...
Hi Pat,
Thanks for this information. I did read through this which seemed to indicate possible low oestrogen levels could contribute to tinnitus, so unsure if the Dr is fully informed as advised to stop it whereas this would probably indicate to increase it.
I guess I try as recommended by Doctor stopping it, then go back on it and possibly increase.
Thanks again for your help. It’s appreciated.
I am doing that now but I don’t think enough time has passed to know.
adding to this.
I can’t remember what meno stuff I was on - but it made no difference on or off. And I changed a few over the years. And nine years go I was put on an oestrogen suppressor (anti-cancer) and while I was on it, nothing changed nor when I came off.
BUT
We all react differently to tinnitus relievers so I’d have thought it could be a good idea to trial.
hi
I been on HRT for about 7-8 years but tinnitus just got worse over time
Be interesting if it does as I’m thinking of coming off it soon
I was recently started on mirtazipine and this has helped tinnitus massively
I’m so pleased as was reluctant to take them .
Was having dark thoughts all time before taking it
Sleep better too .
I’ll update the post to let everyone know how it goes, but obviously everyone could react differently. It’s just nice to hear how others have got on trying different things.
I’m on mirtazapine too, which really helps with sleep. At times, I think I’d benefit upping dose, as I’m on the lowest to help with sleep, but at the same time, don’t want to be taking it forever so reluctant to up it.
I’m pleased it’s helping you - I’ve become to realise tinnitus is quite misunderstood and it’s tough.
Hello Rabb5 My T got worse at the onset of the perimenopause. I believe it's due to falling oestrogen levels. I haven't taken any form of HRT because I dare not upset my T . I'd rather endure hot flushes, mood swings, broken sleep etc. Anything rather than go back to the dark days of T distress. I'd give it up if I were you.
Hi Rabb5. I had been in HRT patches and tablets Eustrogen, for a year and noticed my tinnitus had become annoyingly louder. I decided to come off patches and tablets completely and instantly noticed a difference in my tinnitus. Glad I decided to stop taking HRT. I hope you get your issue resolved as I know everyone reacts differently to medication.
