has this happened to anyone else ? Did you get it to go away ? The drug says it’s potentially irreversible . Anyone out there tried hearing aids and did it help . . I keep crying .

Sadly, statins can cause tinnitus. Were you given astovastin by any chance?

Yes. That’s the culprit . Have now spoken to 2 friends with T , they also have the same statin

I had to stop it, even after having had a heart attack. I tried rosuvastatin but it wasn't any good either. I'm now on ezetrol, but I know it's not as effective as astovastin. But I haven't had a side effect so far. I wish pharmaceutical companies took serious this side effect and investigated the reasons for this side effect. But as it doesn't affect many people there is no money in it.

I refused to take any more Atorvastatin. I am trying a vegan diet to reduce my cholesterol Apparently all statins can cause T.. In my research there was one article I found which states this statin can make it worse . Wish my dr knew that . Atorvastatin is the most dished out statin because it’s the cheapest . I know 6 people on this statin . 3 have tinnitus .

Wow, three out of six, is a lot of people! Although I'm not surprised about it. The Vegan diet should help with tinnitus as well. Fingers crossed you get both things sorted. x

yes one of my friend had it before her Atorvastatin. She remembers her T getting quieter. She also remembers it getting worse but cant remember if thats when she was given the Ator as it was so long ago . Cant say for sure if thats the culprit. It could also be the dosage . I got 40mg, but another friend has 10mg and shes fine. Mine reacted so quickly that I am positive it was the statin that made mine louder..

Did it reduce when you stopped the statin?

No and that was only 5 statins. I was hoping it would , but so far no luck.

I cannot find anything on my pack insert (of Atorvastatin) about T as a side effect. It certainly had no effect on my T.

Just because three out of six people on statins have T isn’t all that much of a statistic really as more than one in ten people have T.

If you are a little bit deaf then certainly hearing aids should help you, by making the real world louder therefore the t has less prominence. Read all about it on the Tinnitis UK website.

My pack 40mg does say, may cause Tinnitus on reverse side of leaflet under.. Uncommon 1 in 100." ringing in the ears". What it doesn't say is " may make it worse". Maybe you have a lower dose and it doesn't state that .
