tinnitus help
For many people anxiety makes their tinnitus worse, so it may calm down after your operation. Also, for some people tinnitus can vary in loudness and/or texture from day to day - mine is currently like that. So, don't think because it is bad one day it will also be bad the next day. In the immediate term until your operation, try to relax and perhaps use sound to mask or distract you from the tinnitus. You could achieve both of these by listening to relaxing Nature sounds, such as waterfalls, streams, birdsong or whatever works for you - you may want to investigate some relaxation sounds on Youtube.
thanks I agree I think the op may reduce it. Have you experienced good and bad days. You seem to be able to control yours. I have tried music and relaxation. Here’s for a better day tommorow
Yes, after the operation the tinnitus may be reduced. Also, as you concentrate on your post-op recovery, your brain may give your tinnitus less attention. You may want to look at any medication you have been given leading up to this op, as some medications have tinnitus as a side-effect.
I've had tinnitus for many years and it hasn't previously bothered me too much, but this year it has become erratic and I get good and bad days. I wouldn't say I can control it but I've got to know it and avoid situations that may aggravate it. For example, mine is generally reactive to sound, so I have to be careful not to provoke it unnecessarily with noise. I think everyone gets used to their tinnitus and learns how to 'manage' it.
Hi Ernie274 It's very natural that you feel anxious in the weeks before an operation and the closer you get no doubt the more anxious you feel. Tinnitus thrives on anxiety so try to relax as much as possible. Do things you enjoy, spend time with people you like, listen to soothing sounds . Your tinnitus may well reduce after the operation. All the best on Monday.
just to add - as others have said.
Yep it has its moments, and sometimes more than others.
