Tinnitus and alcohol

I keep a health diary and looking back over the last month I've noticed days when my tinnitus has practically disappeared from being very loud. This occurs in the evening after I've had a couple of alcoholic drinks and sometimes continues the day after too. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

While alcohol is generally not advised for tinnitus, I have long known that it reduces my tinnitus. This tends to be just for a couple of hours or so, but then I don't drink alcohol in large quantities. I saw survey results that said this is the case for 16% of tinnitus sufferers, so only a small proportion. I wouldn't drink alcohol as a regular tinnitus dampener but have an occasional couple of gin and oranges as a treat when my tinnitus is bad.

wow marigold you’ll make me into an alcoholic!!

Actually wine doesn’t affect my T unless I go overboard - which really doesn’t happen nowadays, I can’t remember the last hangover! But T is bad with hangovers!.

If ive been out drinking, my tinnitus disappears the day after. Not sure if its thr alcohol, the happiness or being relaxed or the dancing.

Does alcohol itself change anybody's tinnitus, or are they more relaxed once they've had a glass of wine or a pint of beer?

That is a good question. I first noticed diminished tinnitus after alcohol on my way home from work nights out (of very modest drinking) in the days when my T wasn't troublesome and I didn't take much notice of it anyway. So, I'm tempted to say alcohol really did reduce my T. However, more recently when I've had a drink during a T spike, I have noted that it is perhaps only slightly reduced but not grabbing my attention as much, probably because I am more relaxed and less concerned. So, it might be a bit of both. Again, I think alcohol is a dangerous road as a temporary fix for T, so it is not something I would indulge in regularly.

Hi.

Exactly the same for me. I have constant LOUD high pitched whine in both ears T wise and aslo spells of odd pressure in ears and around head.

Both sets of symtoms are less noticeable if I've had a few drinks (beers) This is during the evening I'm having the drinks and also through the next day.

Dangerous as I like beer probably too much anyway so I take care with it.
