Hi all experiencing an all day spike in my T over the last week or so. Not too disruptive during the day but at night experiencing nightmares. Do others experience similar?

Hi Peejayache

Sometimes the nights can be difficult, for sure; especially if the T is particularly noisy. I stick my phone under my pillow and play sounds that mask the T somewhat. If both ears are humming/buzzing loudly I might wear ear pods instead. (I've tried the headband with mic. and that's just too hot.) I think the trick for me is to not go to sleep until I am feeling really tired. I also have started wearing hearing aids during the day as my T is caused by some hiring loss. They are bluetooth-enabled so I can play masking sounds should I feel the need to. The upshot is that in daytime I forget the T. and at night I find I can mostly forget the T. But its taken me a little bit of time to get to this point and accept that this is how it's going to be. (To be fair I'm also retired so I don't have to get up for work which, I guess, reduces the stress.)

I do hope things get better for you.

I do have nightmares - had one last night - but I don't think they are related to T. I've only once been so bothered by T... then again, that is what led me here.

Poor you, though! Could something else be causing the nightmares and you've attributed it to T?

After about a week of saying I could not put up with Tinnitus much longer, I collapsed(unrelated) and was taken in to hospital with a heart complaint, I was in 2 days and sat on the side of the bed for 2 nights with no sleep.

Like you I was getting no sleep at all, I was told to learn my brain a very precise sleep pattern.

It took a while but now I go to bed at midnight with Tinnitus screaming in my ears, with my phone playing a talk station under my pillow I drop off very quickly and average about 5 hours a night.

I do not have nightmares but do have some weird dreams but that is nothing unusual.

Stick with it, the human body is a wonderful thing.

Take care

Mike

Hello yes I suffer nightmares almost each night. I have more or less the same theme playing out in different scenarios. For me each nightmare is about me being trapped. I’m amazed at the creativity of the brain to come up with endless ideas on the same point. Trapped in a car, boat, office, forest you name it.

Personally I think this is because my T is very intrusive and loud all the time.

Never a moment it seems and so over the years I feel claustrophobic inside my own head. I can not run away from it.

I feel Ed trapped in the day and I guess that plays out in these endless trapped nightmares. Last night I was tiny and inside a box of matches in a pocket. The matches the size of logs to me, were constantly trying to pin me down and crush me as these matches rolled about inside the box in someone’s pocket. There was no escape and no one even knew about it.

Dreadful and woke with a shout and a cold sweat feeling out of breath.

Hope that help in that you are not alone with T and nightmares.

Best G

Thank you G that is very helpful and reassuring. T is such an isolating condition with, it seems, a multitude of possible effects. Inevitably, its effect is quite debilitating which makes dealing with them very hard. This site really does help by enabling all of us to realise that we aren't as isolated as we think.

The nightmare issue is how to cope with them without totally "going off the rails".

Those dreams sound terrible, i hope the subside soon, i dont know if this will help anyone or if I'll get in trouble for saying this, but if this helps just one person its worth it, i take prescription Co Codamol 30: 500, that's 30 Mg of Codiene and 500Mg of Paracetamol, i find that if i take one tablet if this with 4Mg of Ondansetron, my T subsides to usually a very low level, i take this when I wake as my T will be high and within i he i have forgotten about my T, it also works when going to sleep, maybe this is Placebo i dont know but it does work for me,Good Luck and God Bless

It’s subjective. = everyone is different.Regards Supermarkets, they’re unusual places at best of times. You have Polite Fluent Happy shoppers.

Then there’s shoppers that stop abruptly in front of you & they get me Stressed out & more Anxious. Hence raising my BP& enhancing Cognitive impairment ( feel like saying (: retard, get out of the way.! That’s because tinnitus puts you in a heightened state of awareness.

You see & hear life through a different lense, & Audible.!!!! Oh My.. I HATE SUPERMARKETS.

. Especially when you see obese ppl buying garbage.; I make that Comment, because it never used to bother me.”

You have to realise/_ accept that you have to reprogram your life and habits.

When in Rome..

You will be fine.

Keep a journal like a spreadsheet.

Colour code it..& you will see a pattern.

It’s about Breaking the CYCLE. Of The Big T.

Namaste

Regards Daniel
