My T is unbearable at the moment. Multiple sirens going off in my head and no sleep. I know I shouldn’t, but I keep looking for reasons why this is happening to me. I have a flushed cheek on the side my T is worst but both Drs and dentist have said I have no infection. Is this something anyone else has encountered? Also, my T is so loud now that I have to put white noise up v v load to try to get a break from it. I’m worried that this may damage my ears. Any thoughts? I did not get my original T from noise damage, it just came on after SSNHL. I just cant believe how awful it is. , I’m shaking just at the thought of going to bed and lying there all night again...

Oh no Greenandblue I’m sorry to hear your tale . It seems like we all have our crosses to bear. I came down to stay with my family and grandchildren last Friday and my T got much worse because of the noise of young kids and I didn’t think I would be able to stay, so I told myself to relax and ignore it and lo and behold it all improved . . I think we are all greatly affected by the sensitivity of our head/ears and therefore any stress accelerated it all . I had tooth surgery this year and my T also got worse then . After the tooth came out and I relaxed it improved again. There seems no answer to everything except take each day as it comes .
I do hope you get some sleep tonight. Sorry I’ve waffled on a bit !!!! Goodnight. …
Sorry to hear about your T. I think this is an eternal battle for many of us. Like you I have looked for reasons as I think it is easier to accept T when you know the reason. But maybe I am wrong. What is SSNHL ?
Aww. So sorry G&B. I know how you feel. At times last year I was afraid to go to bed - knowing I wouldn't sleep. Have you asked your GP for help? It might be an idea . You can have a look at safe noise levels on the BTA website and there are apps to check how loud sounds are - if you're worried about it. I hope you're OK this morning.
Sorry to read this, G&B - what I would advise is not using white noise at loud volumes, as this is likely to have an effect opposite to what you intend. Using white noise at increased volume tends to make tinnitus increase to compensate - having it below the volume level of your tinnitus, so that you have to actively seek it out, can be the most helpful way of using it.
In regard to your worries about bedtime, you've made some interesting points - not the least of which is feeling fear about going to bed and being awake all night. I would imagine most people on this forum have been in that mindset previously.
Whilst it's convincing in the moment, what might help is to acknowledge that you have more control over tinnitus than you give yourself credit for. A lot of people get into a pattern with tinnitus of feeling that a lack of sleep is a foregone conclusion. I don't think that it is, but it's really easy for our brains to convince us of this if we're sleep-deprived and tired enough not to see a bigger picture.
There is a lot of genuinely helpful advice on our Sleep and Tinnitus article about how to approach this time of day and what you can do to get your sleep pattern back to normal. Try and have a read of it and see if any of the contents give you food for thought:
Hello Greenandblue,
I've just joined the forum, having woken up to the booming, humming and whining in my right ear and decided to reach out to other sufferers.
Anyway, being new to this, I can't answer your question but wanted to show my support. I hope you sort your sleep out soon.😀
